March 28, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers fell to the Johnstown Chiefs, 3-1, at WesBanco Arena Friday night. Randy Rowe and Alexandre Imbeault each had a goal and an assist for Johnstown in the win as Aaron Clarke scored the only goal for the Nailers.
The lone goal of the first period was scored by Imbeault at 13:35. Rowe set him up in the slot for a one-timer that beat Peter Vetri who stopped the other 10 shots of the period. It was his first ECHL start and he finished the game with 26 saves on 29 shots.
An early penalty in the second period got the Nailers in trouble in the opening minute. The Chiefs didn't waste any time scoring a power-play goal at 1:09. Greg Gallagher scored his second of the year after his point-shot tipped off a Nailers defenseman and into the net just 24 seconds after their power play began.
The Nailers cut the lead in half at 9:10 of the second. BJ Radovich grabbed the puck in his own zone and raced up ice on a 3-on-1 with Justin Chwedoruk and Aaron Clarke. As Chwedoruk cut to the net, a Johnstown defender lost an edge and knocked down his goaltender, Ryan Nie. Radovich dropped the puck to a trailing Clarke who ripped it top-shelf for his 17th goal of the season.
Johnstown's shorthanded goal in the final minute of the second period increased their lead to 3-1. Imbeault returned the favor to Rowe this time as the tally at 19:04 of the second was the final goal of the game.
Wheeling hits the road for a game in Reading on Saturday at 7:05pm. The final home game of the season for the Nailers is on Wednesday as they host the Dayton Bombers. It's fan appreciation night as the entire team will be available for autographs following the game. It's also a WesBanco Wednesday.
