
Wilkes-Barre Returns Rank and D'Aversa; Darling Called to Manchester

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that Pittsburgh has reassigned defenseman Jon D'Aversa to Wheeling from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Forward Kyle Rank was also returned from the Baby Penguins.
In a separate transaction, goaltender Curtis Darling has been signed to a professional tryout contract with the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
D'Aversa, 21, has recorded 10 assists in 20 games with the Nailers this season. He also represented Wheeling at the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, California, scoring two goals for the American Conference. In 27 games with the Baby Penguins, the rookie registered four goals and two assists.
Rank, 25, has recorded 18 points (9g,9a) and 17 penalty minutes in two stints with the Nailers this season. In his most recent assignment (Feb. 29 - Mar. 12), he recorded five points (3g, 2a) in just seven games. The Elmira, Ontario native has appeared in 25 games with the WBS Penguins this season, recording one assist. He began the season with Wheeling, recording 12 points (5g,7a) in 22 games with the Nailers before being recalled by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on December 11, 2007.
Darling, 24, appeared in 26 games with the Nailers, collecting a 7-16-3 record, a 3.63 goals-against-average and a .914 save-percentage. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, also played 15 minutes in a game with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch this season and made four saves. Darling started the season with the Charlotte Checkers and registered a 3-4-0 record, a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .881 save-percentage in eight games. Following three seasons at the University of Waterloo (2004-07), he played in parts of two games with the Royals during the 2006-07 season.
