Trenton Devils News Release
READING, PA (March 28, 2008) - Eric Castonguay's first goal since February sparked a wild comeback bid by the Trenton Devils, but in the end it would not be enough to make up for the outstanding goaltending by John Murray, who earned a 4-2 Reading Royals win.
Matt Cohen earned two points in the comeback-and the third star-as the young guns of Trenton's power play went to work with ten-and-a-half minutes to go. Cohen assisted on Castonguay's tally and later scored his own.
The Quebec native Castonguay punched in a puck on the doorstep at the 9:35 mark in the third period, making the game 4-1. The Devils had up to that point been foiled by Murray, who ended up with 27 saves on 29 shots.
The Devils then went back on the power play courtesy of a Mike Salekin elbowing whistle, and Cohen scored on a similar play, blasting a rebound into the left side of the net to cut the deficit in half.
Trenton would have several more solid chances, including a two-on-one shorthanded breakaway and a power play in the waning minutes, but could not complete the rally.
Reading scored its four goals on well-placed shots, and went two-for-five on the power play.
The game-winner, a behind-the-back deflection by Matt Herneisen, typified Reading's assault, which also included a five-hole stuffer by Chris Blight, a screen shot by Kevin Saurette, and a bouncer over the shoulder pad by Malcolm MacMillan.
Maxime Ouellet stopped 16 of 20 for Trenton in his second loss of the season.
The Trenton Devils continue their final road trip of the season with a trip to Johnstown this Sunday, March 30th at 5:05pm. Tune into WBCB 1490 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
