Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons suffered their season-high third straight loss in regulation on Friday, falling to the Las Vegas Wranglers 3-2 in front of 5,346 fans at Save Mart Center.
Following a scoreless first period, the teams combined for four goals in the second period. Las Vegas got things started 1:28 into the period as Kelly Czuy skated out of the penalty box, gathered in an outlet pass from Marco Peluso, and slid a shot through the five-hole of Kris Mayotte for his 11th goal of the season.
Fresno answered with a power-play goal at 3:04. Daryl Marcoux's shot from the right point deflected off of a Las Vegas stick, and beat goaltender Daniel Manzato high to the glove side to knot the score at 1.
The Wranglers opened a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes with two goals late in the period. Bruce Mulherin put Las Vegas back on top at 13:25, sliding a shot past Mayotte on another breakaway opportunity.
At 17:42, Aki Seitsonen picked up a centering pass from Nathan Barrett at the top of the Fresno crease, and flipped a shot past Mayotte for his 16th goal of the year, giving Las Vegas a two-goal lead.
The Falcons pulled within one with a power-play goal 3:12 into the third period. Matt Stefanishion skated across the Las Vegas blue line and beat Manzato with a long slap shot from the right-wing side for his 19th goal of the season.
Fresno pulled Mayotte in the final 30 seconds, but was unable to get the tying goal. The Falcons have now scored just 13 goals in their last seven games, going 3-4-0 over that span.
The Falcons continue their final home stand of the season on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. face-off against the Idaho Steelheads. It's Girl Scout Night with the Falcons, presented by Eye-Q Vision Care, 93.7 KISS Country, and ABC 30. There will be a girl scout parade on the ice during the first intermission, and following the game, fans will be able to purchase girl scout cookies on the concourse. The Falcons will wear their shooter jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game with proceeds to benefit the girl scouts. The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive a Matt O'Dette bobblehead.
Tickets for all Falcons' home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (559) 485-TIXS or www.ticketmaster.com. All Falcons games air on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show 15 minutes prior to face off.
