Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Nailers, just as they did last night, scored in the first minute of the game, but it took a shootout for them beat the Trenton Titans 3-2 tonight at WesBanco Arena in front of over 3,800 fans.

Jordan Cameron opened the game by beating goalie Joel Martin just 30 seconds into tonight's game to give the Nailers an early lead. Ryan Moren and Adam Edinger had assists on Cameron's eighteenth goal of the year.

The period evened out after the quick strike and ended with the Nailers holding the 1-0 edge.

The Titans' Mike Pandolfo tied the game in spectacular fashion at 6:08 of the second period, showing why he is the league's leading goal scorer.

Les Haggett found Pandolfo with a blue line to blue line outlet pass that put him on a breakaway. Pandolfo lost his footing and fell on to his stomach. Sliding head first toward Andy Franck, he was able to flip the puck over Franck's right shoulder.

The game stayed tied for the remainder of the middle frame.

Trenton, on the power play, took a 2-1 lead at 12:13 of the third when Troy Riddle skated down the right wing and put a wrist shot over Andy Franck's glove.

The lead, however, didn't last very long. Just 31 seconds to be exact.

On the first shift after the Titans goal, Vin Hellemeyer evened it up for the home squad, beating Martin for his second goal of the year.

Regulation ended in a 2-2 draw, resulting in the obligatory overtime period.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to the shootout. Andy Franck stoned all four shooters he faced and Joe Guenther sealed the victory with the Nailers second shootout goal.

With the win, the Nailers improve to 18-19-1-1, but remain four points out of the final North Division playoff spot.

The Nailers play their third home game in as many days tomorrow when they take on the Augusta Lynx at 6 p.m.
