Augusta Lynx News Release

Johnstown, PA - Augusta rode a special teams wave to a 6-4 win over the Johnstown Chiefs Saturday night, scoring three power play and two shorthanded goals en route to the victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Weston Tardy and Ken Scuderi recorded back-to-back power play goals for a 2-1 Lynx lead after 20 minutes of play.

Garrett Bembridge notched Augusta's only even strength goal to open the second period at 8:47, wristing a shot past Chiefs starter Morgan Cey on the stick side to make it 3-1.

Jamie Johnson followed with a spectacular wraparound goal, sucking Cey out of the net after taking a Ryan Lang feed and scooting around behind the goal to dump the puck in the yawning goalmouth at 13:53.

Late in the second, Brandon Elliott scored his first of two goals with a power play marker at 19:07, cutting the deficit to 4-2 at the break.

Both teams would switch goaltenders to start the third period, with Dave McKee replacing Nathan Marsters and Gerald Coleman in for Cey.

Elliott pulled the Chiefs within a goal with his second of the night 3:18 into the period, followed by a Stanislav Lascek marker to tie the game at 4-4 and put the momentum squarely in the Johnstown corner.

But as they have done time and time again on its recent win streak, Augusta would short circuit the tide of the game with another shorthanded goal, this time from Louis Goulet on a give-and-go feed from Lang for his 19th of the year at 11:46.

Late in the contest, just as the Chiefs were in the waning seconds of a penalty kill, the team was whistled for too many men on the ice. An uproar from the Johnstown bench resulted in a second minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Lynx a five-on-three advantage for a full two minutes.

Sean Blanchard required only 15 seconds of that power play to tack on an insurance marker for Augusta from Bembridge and Johnson, who each finished with a goal and three assists in the game.

With a pair of assists Lang extends his scoring streak to 14 games, currently the longest streak of its kind in the ECHL.

McKee picked up the win for Augusta by stopping four of six shots in the final frame, while Coleman was saddled with the loss, stopping just three of five shots against.

The Lynx are back in action at 6 pm on Sunday as they take on the Wheeling Nailers. Radio coverage will begin immediately following the conclusion of the Georgia Tech basketball game on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
