Idaho Steelheads News Release

Las Vegas, NV - Lance Galbraith recorded a hat trick, as the Steelheads rallied from a one-goal, third period deficit before eventually falling in overtime to the Las Vegas Wranglers 5-4 at Orleans Arena on Saturday night.

Galbraith's effort was the Steelheads (22-16-2-1) first three-goal performance this season, as they extend their unbeaten streak to three games. The victory gives the Wranglers (20-8-5-5) their first extra session win this season, as they snap their three-game winless streak overall.

After a scoreless first period the two teams combined for seven goals in a 7:15 span midway through the second period. The Wranglers broke the scoreless tie and then added to their lead with power play goals by defenseman Scott Schoneck and center Chris Neiszner, at 6:42 and 8:23, respectively. Schoneck assisted on Neiszner's tally and defenseman Ryan Bonni grabbed helpers on both markers.

At 9:25 of the frame Galbraith cut the home team's lead in half with his first of the campaign and 15th goal of the season. After Wranglers' goaltender Mike McKenna (22 saves) stopped Galbraith's first shot from the point, Steelheads' defenseman Kory Scoran got the puck back to Galbraith who ripped a slap shot into the back of the net. Colin Shields also set up the play. Just 12 seconds later, Greg Rallo won an offensive zone draw back to defenseman Kyle Peto who fired a shot from inside the blue line that snuck inside the left post and past McKenna. Seventy-one seconds after the Steelheads tied the contest at two; Galbraith netted his second of the stanza to give the visitors their first lead. After McKenna misplayed the puck behind his own net, Galbraith gathered at the goal line in the right wing corner and banked the puck off McKenna and in for his fourth two-goal game of the season.

The Wranglers would answer 58 seconds after Galbraith's tally, as Joe Tallari converted on a power play opportunity, for his sixth of the season. Just over two minutes later, Tallari was at it again, giving the Wranglers a 4-3 advantage. After the Steelheads failed to clear their defensive zone, Aki Seitsonen found Tallari at the bottom of the left circles and he beat Steve Silverthorn (24 saves). Derek Edwardson recorded the second assist.

Late in the third period, Galbraith completed the hat trick, potting his 17th of the campaign off a blast from the right circles to tie the game at four. Scoran and Peto assisted on the man advantage marker at 14:28.

Sixty-two seconds into overtime, the Wranglers got their fourth power play tally of the evening when Neiszner got to his own rebound and smacked the puck past Silverthorn. Edwardson and Nick Anderson drew the assists, as the Wranglers became the first team to score four power play goals against the Steelheads this season. The final shots favored the Wranglers, 29-26.

The Steelheads continue their five-game road trip in Victoria on Friday, February 2. Faceoff is at 8:05 p.m. MST. Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the all-new, print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
