
Gladiators Lose to Everblades 7-1

Colton Fretter had the Gladiators only goal in a 7-1 to the Florida Everblades on Saturday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Gwinnett falls to 25-13-4 on the season in the loss.
Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Gladiators on a goal by David Brine 4:25 into the first period. Brine beat Gladiators netminder Dave Caruso on an odd man rush for the goal. Derek Damon and Ernie Hartlieb collected the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Reggie Berg gave the Everblades a 2-0 lead on the power play midway through the first period. Parked on off wing, Berg took a pass from Brent McDonald and ripped a snapshot past Caruso for the tally. Brad Zancanaro also had an assist on the power play goal at the 10:01 mark of the first period.
Colton Fretter collected his 27th goal of the season for the Gladiators to cut the Florida lead back to one. Scott Mifsud threaded the puck through bodies in the slot hitting a waiting Fretter on the doorstep to set up the marker. Brad Schell also had an assist on the power play goal for the Gladiators at the 15:23 mark of the first period.
Dustin Johner got the goal right back for Florida beating Caruso on a breakaway at the 16:02 mark of the first period. Johner posted the goal unassisted as he picked up the puck in the neutral zone after a Gladiators defenseman had a shot blocked setting up the breakaway.
The Gladiators and Everblades clamped down defensively in the second period as the middle stanza ended as it began with Florida leading by a 3-1 score.
Florida put the game away with four power play goals in the third period. Ernie Hartlieb posted the first goal of the final stanza for Florida just 3:52 into the period ripping a slapshot over the shoulder of Caruso for the marker from the right wing circle. Damon collected an assist on the goal for the Everblades.
Franklin MacDonald gave the Everblades a 5-1 lead at the 7:53 mark of the third beating Caruso from the left wing point on the power play. Berg and Zancanaro posted the assists for the Everblades on the goal.
Florida added another marker on the power play at the 13:53 mark as Johner recorded his second goal of the night sliding through the slot beating Caruso for the marker while Chris Lee rounded out the scoring for the Everblades with another power play goal for Florida with just 50 seconds left in the third for the 7-1 final.
Caruso finished with 37 saves in the loss for Gwinnett while Florida set a team record for power play chances as the went 4-for-15 on the man advantage in the win.
