Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

COLUMBIA, SC - Michael Mole was outstanding in goal turning aside 47 of 49 shots to lift the Pensacola Ice Pilots to a 3-2 victory over the Columbia Inferno and a sweep of the weekend series.

The Ice Pilots won back to back games for the first time since early December. That win streak was also punctuated by a win over Columbia.

Mole was terrific especially in the third period giving up the one goal by Mike Jarmuth late in the third period. The Ice Pilots fought hard all night long and stuck to their defensive system of the lock that frustrated Columbia at times. In the opening period, the Ice Pilots surrendered the game's first goal at 2:28 despite three outstanding saves by Michael Mole. However, Pensacola rallied after that and scored the next two goals. The first one was scored by John Hecimovic from Dwayne Hay and Nate Metcalf. Hecimovic converted a rebound after Hay's blast was stopped by Todd Ford. Metcalf set up the play when he kept the puck in at the blue line.

Then the Ice Pilots converted a two on one when Sergei Ogorodnikov scored from Rob Rankin. Nikita Korovkin also had an assist on the play.

In the second period the Ice Pilots penalty killing and defensive play stepped up and Michael Mole continued to shine in net. The Ice Pilots added a third goal on a wrist shot from Ogorodnikov that went off of Todd Ford's shoulder and landed in the back of the net.
