DAYTON, OH - The Wheeling Nailers scored twice in the first nine minutes of the game but were unable to score again as the Dayton Bombers won 4-2 at the Nutter Center Saturday night. Both of the Nailers goals came within 1:06 of each other to change a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.

With the Nailers down a man, Justin Maiser registered his 15th goal of the year. Yanick Tifu, who had five points last week against the Nailers, slid a pass across the slot to Maiser for the tap in 2:41 into the first.

Wheeling responded with a power-play goal of their own. Tifu was in the box for goaltender interference and the Nailers wasted no time on the advantage. It took them just six seconds of power-play time to win a faceoff, carry the puck into the zone and score. Sean Collins took a one-time feed from Ned Havern and deposited it behind Terry Denike to tie the game.

Eric Sonnenberg's fifth of the year at 8:34 gave the Nailers their first and only lead. Shortly after a faceoff inside the Dayton zone, Sonnenberg let a slapper fly through the legs of Denike.

The Bombers tied the game in the opening minutes of the second frame. Greg Labenski's shot from the blue line tipped off a couple of players in front, last touched by Paul Kelly, past Andy Franck. It was Kelly's 16th of the year at the 3:40 mark of the second.

Despite 11 Nailers shots in the second they were held off the scoreboard and the third period began a tie game.

The game winner came just 28 seconds into the final period. The puck bounced towards the blue line where it was met by a Labenski slapshot. The puck somehow found its way through a crowd in front and into the net.

Brent Walton's empty net goal sealed the deal for Dayton with 57.3 seconds remaining.

The Nailers outshot the Bombers 24-19 as Wheeling went 1 for 5 on the power play.

The two teams will play a rematch on Sunday in Wheeling at WesBanco Arena.
