Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania - The Cincinnati Cyclones won for the fourth time in five games, thanks to a three point night from forward Mike Wirll and a two assist night from center Barret Ehgoetz in a 4-1 win over Johnstown.
The Cyclones opened the scoring in the first period, when forward Mike Wirll netted his 39th goal of the season at 9:06. Wirll skated around a defenseman on the right side and from just inside the right side faceoff dot rifled a shot over the left shoulder of Morgan Cey to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.
In the middle frame, Cincinnati opened the scoring when Greg Stewart rifled home his seventh goal of the season at 10:15, to make the score 2-0. The play was made when Barret Ehgoetz crashed the net and from his stomach swept the puck into the slot where Stewart waited for the chance to score. Wirll added the other assist on the score. Grant Jacobsen netted his ninth score of the season at 10:55 of the period to cut the deficit in half, at 2-1.
Cincinnati scored a pair of third period goals to ice the game, as Wirll collected his second of the night and 40th of the season at 8:27, with Ehgoetz adding the assist. Jean-Michel Daoust closed out the scoring with his 26th score of the campaign at 15:55, with Matt Macdonald adding the assist.
Cedrick Desjardins, in his first game since being re-assigned by the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), was up to the challenge-turning aside 27 shots in the win.
Cincinnati is ten games above .500 for the first time since the end of the 1995-96 season, when the club was known as the Louisville RiverFrogs in their inaugural season. That club turned in a 39-24-7 regular season slate.
The Cyclones are now 32-22-2-2, leaders of the North Division lead by three points over Dayton. Johnstown is 26-26-3-3 on the season and is in sixth place in the North. The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, March 14 at 7:30pm, playing the Reading Royals.
