Fresno Falcons News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Fresno Falcons scored three third-period goals to come-from-behind and defeat the Idaho Steelheads 4-3 on Saturday in front of 4,816 fans at Qwest Arena. With the win, the Falcons move to within two points of Idaho four fourth place in the National Conference with 13 games remaining for both teams.
Idaho took an early lead 4:45 into the first period as Darrell Hay's shot from the left-wing circle eluded goaltender Scott Stirling for his ninth goal of the season.
Fresno came back to tie the score just 1:27 later. John Morlang moved the puck into the left-wing circle, and Brian McConnell blasted a shot over Steve Silverthorn's glove for his fifth goal of the season.
The Steelheads added a pair of power-play goals before the first period ended to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Derek Nesbitt scored his 23rd goal of the season at 9:57, blasting a shot past Stirling from the left-wing circle. Tuomas Mikkonen extended the Idaho lead to two at 18:46, deflecting Kory Scoran's shot from the left point.
Idaho maintained its two-goal advantage until the opening minute of the third period. John Wroblewski's long blast missed wide of the net, but the rebound caromed to Brett Hammond in the left-wing circle, and he beat Silverthorn high to the glove side cutting the Steelheads' lead to 3-2 just 36 seconds into the final period.
The Falcons tied the score with a power-play goal at 5:18. Hammond had his shot knocked down, but the puck rolled to Wroblewski at the hash marks and he slid a shot past Silverthorn for his 18th goal of the season.
Luke Curtin tallied the game-winner for the Falcons with 1:13 remaining in the third period, tallying Fresno's second power-play goal of the night. Curtin's shot from the right-wing circle beat Silverthorn through traffic for his 19th goal of the season.
