March 10, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Scott Mifsud recorded a pair of power play goals to help the Gladiators past the Augusta Lynx 4-1 on Saturday night on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators improve to 34-18-7 on the year with the win.
Gwinnett opened the scoring just 1:26 into the first period. Jamie Milam was able to flip a backhand shot over the shoulder of Augusta netminder Dave McKee for his 19th goal of the season. Scott Mifsud set up the marker feeding Milam in the slot for an assist. Brad Schell also collected an assist on the goal for Gwinnett.
Scott Mifsud's 23rd goal of the season gave the Gladiators a 2-0 lead on the Lynx at the 9:26 mark of the first period. Mifsud collected his own rebound in the right wing circle and beat McKee to the short side for the power play goal. Schell had his second assist of the night on the goal while Jon Awe also collected a helper on the marker.
Mifsud's second goal of the game pushed the Gwinnett lead to 3-0 at the 8:07 mark of the second period. Matt York redirected Mike Vigilante's pass along the goal line to Misud to collect the assists on the goal. Mifsud's goal came on the power play for the Gladiators.
Augusta broke Dave Caruso's shutout bid at the 5:47 mark of the third period on a goal by Mike Erickson. Dirk Southern and Jason Platt recorded the assists on the goal for the Lynx moving the puck up the ice to set up the marker.
Gwinnett answered to regain the three-goal advantage on Blue Bennefield's 13th goal of the season about a minute later. Bennefield finished an odd man rush for the Gladiators as he took a pass from Mike Vigilante before beating McKee over the shoulder for the marker at the 6:49 mark of the third period. Jon Sitko also had an assist on the marker for Gwinnett.
Caruso finished with 19 saves for the win while the Gladiators out shot the Lynx by a 37-20 margin in the contest. Gwinnett recorded two power play goals on six chances while keeping Augusta off the board on five man advantage opportunities in the contest.
