Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers extended their streak to seven games without a regulation loss by defeating the Wheeling Nailers 4-2 in front of 7,411 fans at the Nutter Center on Saturday night.

Justin Maiser (15) gave the Bombers the very early 1-0 lead on the power play at the 2:41 mark of the first period, as he snuck one right by the back side of Nailers starter Andy Franck

(15 saves Loss) completing a goal mouth pass from Yannick Tifu. The Nailers however would answer the Bombers power play goal with one of their own, when Sean Collins wristed one by Bombers starter Terry Denike (24 saves Win) to tie the game at 1-1 at the 7:28 mark. One minute and six seconds later, the Nailers took the lead when Eric Sonnenberg beat Denike through the five-hole with a screen set in front of the net. Despite a number of chances to tie the game late in the first period, the Bombers went into the second down 2-1.

Paul Kelly (16) tied the game at the 3:40 mark with a picture perfect deflection off the shot by Greg Labenski from the point to make it 2-2. Also assisting on the Kelly goal was rookie Bryce Anderson who was appearing in his first career professional game. After tying the game, the Bombers could not get much offense going and were out shot by the Nailers, but Denike stood tall and both teams headed to the third period tied at 2-2.

Only :28 second into the third period, Labenski (3) was left wide open in the high slot and absolutely blistered a text book slap shot to the top corner of Franck's net to give the Bombers a 3-2 lead. Wheeling had their chances to tie the game, receiving two power plays in the third, but Denike made some highlight worthy saves, including one that forced him to sprawl out post to post to allow the Bombers to hold the lead. With under a minute to go the Nailers pulled Franck for the extra attacker, but Brent Walton (18) poked the puck away from Adam Edinger and slid it into the empty net to seal up the 4-2 home victory.

Dayton is now 30-20-5 on the season and stands alone in second place in the North Division with 65 points. They will now travel to WesBanco Arena to finish up the home and home match up with the Nailers on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
