March 10, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT. - The Bakersfield Condors scored twice in both the first and second periods, and Jamie Hodson stopped 31 shots to record a shutout of the Utah Grizzlies, 4-0, in front of 4,796 at The E Center. The win keeps the Condors in first place in the Pacific Division.
"Tonight was a great all around effort," said Condors head coach Marty Raymond. "It was nice to finish the series strong and take care of business in regulation."
Bakersfield (36-13-10, 82 points) dominated the first period of play and was rewarded with a 2-0 lead. At 7:23, Brett Lutes continued his scoring binge, putting his 25th of the year past Rob McVicar to give the Condors the lead.
Later in the session, Rane Carnegie converted a perfect two-on-one feed from Tyler Liebel at 16:07 to put Bakersfield up two.
The end of the period saw Brad Herauf take a run at Alexandre Bolduc, and after a skirmish, the Condors ended up with a five-on-three advantage to start the second period, and cashed in when Lutes scored his second of the night and fourth in his last four games just 47 seconds into the stanza to make it 3-0.
Like in the first period, Carnegie matched Lutes with another goal of his own to push the margin to 4-0 at 3:58, off a feed from Kevin St. Jacques, who notched his third assist of the night. It was Carnegie's 12th of the season, and marked his first two-goal game as a professional.
Utah (21-32-7, 49 points) had three consecutive power-plays early in the third period but Jamie Hodson and the defense kept them off the board, and the Grizzlies never really threatened again.

Notes: Ryan Van Buskirk, the defenseman the Condors secured via a trade with Florida at the deadline, has a broken foot and is done for the season, and the deal will be voided.
Bakersfield reduced their magic number for clinching home ice advantage in at least the first round of the playoffs to 14 points with the win. Any combination of points the Condors get and the Fresno Falcons don't that totals 14 guarantees Bakersfield home ice in round one of the postseason.
The Condors are now 4-0-2 on the road trip and finished 6-1-0 against Utah this season. They move on to Phoenix for games Tuesday and Thursday, both 7:11 p.m. starts, then finish the road swing Friday in Long Beach.
The team returns to The Nest on March 17th for a game against the Stockton Thunder, as Bright House Networks, 101.5 KGFM and American Business Machines present SpongeBob Squarepants and the St. Patrick's Day Jersey Raffle and Auction. SpongeBob will be live and in person to entertain the crowd, plus five lucky fans will win special game-worn St. Patrick's Day jerseys, with proceeds from the auction donated to Kern Adult Literacy Council.
