Munoz, Solo Homers Lead WooSox to 9-4 Victory over Bisons

Buffalo Bisons News Release
Worcester infielder Yairo Munoz collected four hits, including a pair of the team's five total solo home runs, to lead the Red Sox to a 9-4 victory Wednesday evening against Buffalo at Sahlen Field.
The WooSox offense came out of the gates swinging as Munoz, Joey Meneses and Connor Wong all hit solo shots in the top of the first inning off Bisons starter Bowden Francis.
After a Munoz RBI single in the top half of the second frame gave the WooSox a 5-1 advantage, Christian Colon cut the lead to three with a two-out solo homer over the leftfield wall.
The Herd plated another run in the fourth when backstop Danny Jansen led off with a four-pitch walk. Richard Urena followed by shooting a base hit into the left-center gap that split the outfielders. Jansen got the opportunity to test out his troubled hamstring when Delino DeShields misplayed the ball, allowing the rehabbing catcher to make it all the way around from first to score.
Jansen made his first start behind the dish in his rehab assignment, calling balls and strikes for the first five innings before being replaced by Kellin Deglan. At the plate, Jansen finished the evening with a walk and a run scored in two plate appearances.
After the WooSox made it a 9-2 game in the top half of the eighth, the Bisons' offense made a late threat. Otto Lopez started the inning with an infield single and later came around to score on a Deglan base knock to right.
Colon drove in his second run of the contest with a single to right of his own, bringing in Tyler White, who singled after Lopez. Unfortunately, the Herd weren't able to plate anymore runs, crossing the plate just four times on 11 hits.
Bowden Francis took the loss in the ballgame after allowing six runs on ten hits, while dishing out four total solo home runs to the WooSox hitters. In the righthander's four innings of work, he fanned seven batters; the second time he has struckout seven in a Bisons' uniform.
The two teams will continue their six-game series Thursday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Sahlen Field.
