Cleveland Monsters News Release
Brett Sutter scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Iowa Wild (20-37-1-1) with 4:39 left Saturday night, handing the Lake Erie Monsters (24-22-5-3) a 3-2 loss before a Quicken Loans Arena crowd of 10,498. Stefan Elliott had a goal and an assist for the Monsters, while Joey Hishon also added a goal. Andrew Agozzino's assist gave him 132 points in his career as a Monster, making him the franchise's new all-time points leader. The Monsters continue their eight-game homestand Wednesday against Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m.
After a scoreless first period, Iowa's Collin Bowman scored a power play goal on a wrist shot through traffic from the center of the blue line 56 seconds into the second period. At 5:24 of the second period, following a scramble in front of the Iowa net, Hishon netted a bouncing puck to give him goals in back-to-back games and 14 goals on the season. Hishon's goal was assisted by Tomas Vincour and Elliott.
Before the second period ended, Tyler Graovac carried a puck to the front of the Monsters net, and despite being knocked to the ice, scored from his knees to put the Wild on top at 10:35 of the second period.
Just 3:15 into the third period, Agozzino put a puck toward the net from the right circle that was redirected in by Elliott for his 13th of the season, tying the game at 2-2. Ben Street also assisted on the goal.
On a two-on-one rush up the ice in the late stages of the third period, Mark Hagel found Sutter on a pass, and Sutter lifted a wrist shot into the top portion of the Monsters net, giving Iowa a 3-2 lead that stood for the duration despite furious pressure from the Monsters late in the game.
Calvin Pickard stopped 28 of 31 shots and is now 14-11-5. John Curry stopped 34 of 36 shots for Iowa and is now 10-15-0.
The Monsters host Milwaukee Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday's game airs live on AM 1420 "ËThe Answer'.
