Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Saturday night's contest between Norfolk and Providence was a back-and-forth affair through 59 minutes of play, but the Bruins emerged victorious in a 4-3 decision at Scope Arena.

Goals came early beginning with Cory Kane's marker just 2:28 into the opening period. Deep in the Admirals' zone, Ben Sexton fed David Warsofsky at the left wall. Warsofsky threw the puck on net, which hit Kane on the way there and found its way past Norfolk goaltender Ryan Faragher to put the Bruins up, 1-0.

It took less than a minute for the Admirals to get on the board as well, and another 15 seconds to give them the lead. The flurry began with Max Friberg controlling the puck in the left corner and dishing to William Karlsson atop the left circle. Karlsson one-timed a blast that sizzled by goaltender Malcolm Subban at 3:24.

On the same shift, the Admirals took possession behind the net. Stefan Noesen attempted a wraparound, which Subban turned aside with his pad but didn't direct out of harm's way. Friberg pounced on the rebound at the back post and finished on the doorstep before Subban had a chance to regain position. Karlsson earned the secondary helper at 3:39, and the 2-1 Admirals advantage lasted into the first intermission.

Under five minutes into the middle frame, Justin Florek knotted it up once again. Faragher was able to stop a backhand shot by Andrew Cherniwchan, but Justin Florek rebound putback at 4:27 took the teams tied, 2-2, into the final period.

Norfolk wrestled the lead back just over three minutes into the third period. Jaycob Megna got the play going from the defensive zone, advancing to Karlsson. The Swede carried across the blue line then slid a pass toward the slot for a trailing Noesen. Noesen went bar down with a slap shot at 3:17, pushing the Admirals back in front, 3-2.

At 9:32, the Bruins tallied another equalizer. Warsofsky drove the puck through the left side, faked a shot, and then left the puck for Florek. A perfectly placed wrister off Florek's stick sailed into the top right corner and it was 3-3.

The game looked to be headed to overtime, until Providence scored the game-winner with 25 seconds left. Seth Griffith and Colin Stuart streaked zone-to-zone on a two-on-one, and Griffith crossed the puck through the slot onto Stuart's tape. Stuart channeled his tap-in just inside the left post beyond Faragher's stretching pad, and Providence sealed a 4-3 victory.

Subban stopped 37 of the 40 shots across from Faragher who saved 26 of the Bruins' 30 attempts. Neither team converted on the power play. The Admirals host the Binghamton Senators next week, beginning Wednesday evening at 7:15 p.m., and concluding on Friday.
