Behind three second period goals and 31 saves from goalie Laurent Brossoit, the Oklahoma City Barons downed the San Antonio Rampage 4-0 Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center. Oklahoma City forwards Connor Jones and Bogdan Yakimov each had a goal and an assist in the win.
In the second period of a scoreless game, the Barons broke through on Rampage goalie Dan Ellis at 6:10 of the period when Connor Jones corralled the rebound of a Matt Ford shot and slid the puck through the pads of the San Antonio net minder.
At 15:59 of the second, Jujhar Khaira extended Oklahoma City's lead to 2-0, when he took a Brad Hunt pass that split defenders in the San Antonio slot and flicked a shot past Ellis and into the top left corner of the Rampage net.
Twenty-seven seconds later, Yakimov gave the Barons a 3-0 lead, taking an Andrew Miller pass in the low San Antonio slot and backhanding a shot over Ellis's blocker.
The Barons' lead grew to 4-0 at 11:47 of the third when the rebound of a Yakimov shot in close bounded off Ellis, and Andrew Miller chipped the puck in from the right side of the San Antonio net for his team-leading 21st goal of the season.
With the win, Brossoit earned his second career AHL shutout and improved his season record to 18-11-2.
Ellis stopped 33 shots for San Antonio and fell to 22-11-3.
Earning their 74th standings point, Oklahoma City now holds a seven-point lead over the second place Rampage in the West Division of the AHL's Western Conference.
Following the game, Barons fans pledged $21,875 for one-of-a-kind game-worn jerseys donned by Oklahoma City tonight. The proceeds from the auction benefit the Barons Buddies program with Special Olympics.
The Barons next travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., where they face the Griffins on Wednesday, March 4, in a 6 p.m. CST start at Van Andel Arena.
