LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Portland (12/9): University of Maine alumni, center Michel Leveille, scored his first goal of the season on his old stopping ground but the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Portland Pirates, 4-3, in a shootout at the Alfond Arena on Tuesday night. Monarchs' defenseman Andrew Campbell and center Marty Murray joined Leveille on the scoreboard in regulation. Left wing Vladimir Dravecky was the lone player from Manchester to score in the shootout. Left wing Colin Murphy, left wing Aaron Slattengren and center Colton Fretter lit the lamp in regulation for Portland. Pirates' left wing Tim Kennedy and right wing Mark Mancari picked up the shootout tallies. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Quick (5-5-2) took his second shootout loss of the season with 31 saves on 34 shots. Pirates' netminder Adam Dennis (7-5-0) earned his seventh win of the season with 12 saves in regulation and 4-of-5 in the shootout after replacing goaltender Jhonas Enroth (8-2-2) prior to the third period. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Vs. Albany (12/12): The Manchester Monarchs were routed by the Albany River Rats, 7-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday evening. Center David Meckler scored the lone Monarchs goal. Right wing Pat Dwyer, right wing Jakub Petruzalek, right wing Jerome Samson, defenseman Mark Flood and left wing Michael Ryan (3) tallied for the River Rats. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier (5-5-2) took the loss with seven saves on 10 shots through 20 minutes of playing time. Netminder Jonathan Quick (5-5-2) stopped 16 shots in relief of Bernier. River Rats' goaltender Daniel Manzato (6-6-0) earned his sixth victory of the season with 25 saves. Manchester was 0-for-4 on the power play. Albany went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Vs. Providence (12/13): The Manchester Monarchs ended their three-game winless streak with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Providence Bruins on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs picked up goals from defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov, center Brian Boyle, right wing Trevor Lewis and defenseman Eric Werner in regulation. Left wing Vladimir Dravecky scored the lone goal in the shootout. The Bruins scored goals from center Martin St. Pierre, left wing Peter Schaefer, center Zach Hamill and left wing Mikko Lehtonen in regulation. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier (6-5-2) earned his sixth victory of the season and fourth shootout win after stopping 39 shots in regulation and all five shootout snipers. Bruins' netminder Kevin Regan (5-3-1) took his first shootout loss of the season with 28 saves in regulation and 4-of-5 shootout snipers. Manchester went 3-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

At Providence (12/14): Two power play goals and a strong defensive effort lifted the Manchester Monarchs past the Providence Bruins, 3-1, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Center David Meckler, right wing Trevor Lewis and left wing Scott Parse scored for the Monarchs. Left wing Jeremy Reich picked up the lone goal for the Bruins. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Quick (6-5-2) earned his sixth win of the season stopping 32-of-33 shots. Bruins' netminder Tuukka Rask (11-8-0) took his eighth loss of the season with 17 saves. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

Manchester (12-10-0-4) is tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with the Springfield Falcons (12-11-3-1). Both teams have 28 points.

The Monarchs are currently on a two-game win streak and are 5-4-0-1 in their last 10 games.

The Monarchs have moved into 17th place in the AHL on the power play. The team is 21-for-131 with the man advantage for a 16.0-percent rating.

Manchester has stopped their opponent 125 times on 146 power play opportunities for an 85.6-percent rating this season, good for sixth place.

Manchester lost their first Friday game this season to the Albany River Rats on December 12. Their record is 6-1-0-1 on Fridays.

When the Monarchs score first, they have gained a point in every game but one. Manchester is 9-1-0-4 in the 15 games where they have scored first.

Manchester also earns a point when they have the lead following the first period (9-0-0-3).

The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring four or more goals (6-0-0-0).

After going 2-4-0-1 in the month of October, the Monarchs went 7-4-0-2 in November and are 3-2-0-1 in December.

Manchester's 3-1 win over the Providence Bruins on Sunday, December 14 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center was their first win on a Sunday (1-2-0-1) this season and their first road win in the month of December (1-1-0-1).

Sunday's win over Providence was also the Monarchs first road victory since November 26 in Grand Rapids. The Monarchs were on a five-game road winning streak from November 19-26 and then dropped four in a row (0-3-0-1) on the road November 29 - December 9.

The Monarchs have only two wins on a Saturday this season (2-7-0-0).

Manchester is undefeated in regulation against teams in the Western Conference this season with a record of 5-0-0-1. They are undefeated against teams in the North Division (4-0-0-0) with the only shootout loss in the West Division coming against the Chicago Wolves on November 9.

Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right wing Teddy Purcell (9-10=19), right wing Trevor Lewis (8-11=19) and center Gabe Gauthier (3-16=19) lead the Monarchs in and points through 26 games of the season.

Purcell was recalled to the Kings on December 10. He still leads the Monarchs in goals with nine tallies on the season.

Gauthier is the leader in assists on the squad with 16 assists.

Gauthier is ranked sixth on the Monarchs all-time assists list with 81 helpers over three seasons. He is also ranked 10th in goals scored with 40 and ranked eighth with 121 points.

Center Marty Murray (3-13=16) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs in scoring with 16 points.

Right wing David Meckler (7-4=11) has moved up to fifth place on the Monarchs in scoring and is ranked third in goals scored with seven tallies.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (4-6=10), left wing Scott Parse (3-7=10) and left wing Vladimir Dravecky (2-8=10) are tied for sixth place on the Monarchs with 10 points apiece.

Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Jonathan Quick both have records of 6-5-2.

Quick has won five of the last seven games he's played in.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
