Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose split their two-game home series with the Grand Rapids Griffins dropping their first match-up 6-5 on Friday night and then coming back to win 4-2 on Saturday. ECHL call-ups Dirk Southern and Dan Gendur both earned goals, while Michel Ouellet broke his 11 game goal drought by scoring on Saturday night and Jason Krog's two-goal and an assist weekend moved him to top spot on Manitoba's scoring leaderboard.
Friday, December 12, 2008: Manitoba 5, Grand Rapids 6
The Manitoba Moose saw their losing skid extend to three games last night, as they dropped a 6-5 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins in front of 6916 fans at the MTS Centre. Despite Jason Krog, Nolan Baumgartner, Dirk Southern, Mark Derlago and Darryl Bootland all scoring for Manitoba, a late third period Griffins goal remained unanswered and the loss put the Moose on their longest losing streak of the season at three games.
Saturday, December 13, 2008: Manitoba 4, Grand Rapids 2
The Manitoba Moose were seeking vengeance for Friday night's 6-5 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins and got the payback they sought winning Saturday's rematch 4-2. Dan Gendur earned his first goal in Moose colors, Michel Ouellet broke his 11 game goalless streak, and Jason Krog and Guillaume Desbiens both earned their sixth goals of the season against Griffins netminder Jimmy Howard. Karl Goehring recorded his eighth win of the season in Manitoba by blocking 31 attempts.
Moose Notes
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: In week 10, the Moose were back in white and played their first game at the MTS Centre since their 4-3 defeat to the Iowa Chops on Nov. 29/08. The Moose have a six-game home series before Christmas and historically hold a record of 19-20-1-2 in the six match-ups before Dec. 25th. Last season the Moose played six games before Christmas and ended with a 2-3-0-1 record. The Moose are home-bound until after Christmas with double-headers against the Grand Rapids Griffins (Dec. 12-13/08), Manchester Monarchs (Dec. 16-17/08), and Quad City Flames (Dec. 19-20/08).
TOSS YOUR TEDDY: The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with Toyota Canada, are pleased to announce the return of the Annual "Teddy Bear Toss" to take place on Wednesday, December 17th at the MTS Centre. Gametime is 7:30 PM. All fans attending the game are asked to bring a stuffed toy and have that toy registered at one of the Teddy Bear Toss registration tables located on the concourse. During the registration process, each fan will have their toy bagged, sealed and numbered for a prize draw later in the game. During the second intermission, all fans with a registered stuffed toy will be prompted to throw their bag on the ice - the Teddy Bear Toss! For those fans that forget to bring a stuffed toy, but would still like to participate in the toss, tables will be set up throughout the concourse to sell and register teddy bears for $5.00 each. All toys will be donated to the Christmas Cheer Board.
Upcoming Opponent
The Moose continue their six-game home stand on Tuesday and Wednesday night when they host the Manchester Monarchs at the MTS Centre at 7:30 pm. The Monarchs are currently fifth in the Atlantic Division with a record of 12-10-0-4.
Player of the Week Nominee
Michel Ouellet
Michel Ouellet earned his second nomination for Moose Player of the Week this season by finishing the week with five points in two games... Ouellet earned a trio of assists in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins as the Moose jumped out to a 4-3 first period lead, only to see the Griffins comeback to win it. All of Ouellet's helpers came in the first period... He followed up Friday by snapping an 11-game goal-less drought with his fifth of the season which proved to be the winner, as well as adding an assist on the previous goal... Ouellet is now one point back of the team lead in points with 22 and is tied for the team lead in assists with 17.
