GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled forward Kevin Porter from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
Porter, 22, has recorded 5-5-10 in 25 games this season for the Coyotes and has scored two game-winning goals. He also registered his first career point (assist) while making his NHL debut in the Coyotes' season-opening win over Columbus on Oct. 11. After being assigned to San Antonio on Dec. 12, Porter scored one goal in two games for the Rampage.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Porter won the 2008 Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player last season as a senior at the University of Michigan. Porter ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring by collecting 33-30-63 in 43 games and led Michigan to its 23rd Frozen Four appearance in school history while also serving as team captain. Following the completion of the college season, Porter joined San Antonio for the Calder Cup Playoffs and collected four assists in seven games.
A native of Northville, Mich., Porter also captained Team USA at the 2006 World Junior Championships and represented the United States at the 2005 World Junior Championships. In addition, Porter played for Team USA at the 2003 and 2004 Under-18 World Championships.
Porter was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
