Devils And Monsters Come To Hershey This Weekend

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club will conclude a three-game road trip this Friday night in Wilkes- Barre/Scranton against the Penguins at 7: 05 p.m. Following Friday's game, the BEARS begin a four-game homestand Saturday night with a game against the Lowell Devils. Face-off Saturday night is at 7:00 p.m. The Lake Erie Monsters make their lone appearance of the 2008-09 season at GIANT Center this Sunday at 5:00 p.m. to close out three-games in three nights for the Chocolate and White.

Following a break for Christmas, the BEARS will host Binghamton and Albany on December 27 and 28 at GIANT Center. Tickets for all BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Texas Two-Step: The BEARS played its first two regular season games in the state of Texas lastw eek, falling to the San Antonio Rampage 3-0 on Thursday at AT&T Center before a 6-1 setback at Toyota Center at the hands of the Houston Aeros. HERSHEY had previously played the Aeros in the 2002 Western Conference Semi- Finals, but had never seen Houston during the regular season.

Streak stopped at 11: The loss in San Antonio put the brakes on a franchise record 11 straight wins for the Chocolate and White. Prior to Thursday night, the BEARS had not lost a game since November 9 in Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers.

Machesney's streak ends: Daren Machesney had his shutout streak snapped Saturday in a 6-1 loss at Houston. Allowing a goal to Krys Kolonos of the Aeros at 5:02 of the first period, Machesney saw his goalless streak end at 174 minutes and 28 seconds. The goal was the first allowed for Machnesney since Bridgeport's Jesse Joensuu scored at 10:34 of the first period on November 22 at GIANT Center

Varlamov gets first NHL win: Goaltender Simeon Varlamov was recalled to Washington Friday and made his first NHL earned his first NHL win 2-1 at Bell Centre. He remains on recall to the Capitals as the new week begins.

Washington update: After back-to-back wins over Ottawa and Montreal this past Friday and Saturday, the Caps head to New York to face the Islanders Tuesday night. Washington then returns home to face the St. Louis Blues Thursday night at Verizon Center before a Saturday matinee in Philadelphia against the Flyers at 1:00 p.m.
