Aeros Weekly Update

The Houston Aeros begin the week with a 13-10-1-3 record sitting at sixth in the West Division. However, the 30 points for the season puts Houston only four points behind the division-leading Chicago Wolves. Houston currently has a point-streak of five games (3-0-0-2) for the second best current streak in the league behind a pair of 5-0-0-0 streaks. Goaltender Barry Brust has started each of those five games.

The Aeros start their four-game road trip this week in Milwaukee on Wednesday against the Admirals at 7 p.m. CST. Milwaukee is one of the two teams in the league with a five-game winning streak which the Aeros look to snap. Through three games played against the Admirals this season, Houston has a 2-0-0-1 record against the club earning at least a point in each of the games. Krys Kolanos has three goals and Corey Lock has two against the Admirals this season. The game is the first pairing in Milwaukee this season.

Back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday are the first two games against the Rockford IceHogs this season at 7:30 and 7:05 p.m. CST respectively. Houston and Rockford split last season 3-3, with each winning two games on the road and one at home. In every game last season the winning team recorded at least three goals. Brust played in five of the six games and Anton Khudobin was between the pipes for the other game. Fellow netminder Nolan Schaefer has yet to face the IceHogs. Clayton Stoner, Ryan Hamilton, Peter Olvecky and Brandon Rogers each scored two goals against the club last season.

Houston will round out a three-in-three when they visit the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST. Houston owns an all-time record of 15-11-1-1 against the Rivermen with a 6-2-0-0 record last season. The Aeros won all four road games in the 2007-08 campaign. Three of the eight games were decided after regulation time, two in OT and one in a shootout, all three were Aeros' victories.

W EEK IN REVIEW

In the three games this past week the Aeros and Barry Brust walked away with a 2-0-0-1 record. The week extended his undefeated streak to five games (3-0-2) along with an Aeros' point streak in the same span. In that time frame Brust had a 1.55 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage. His performance moved him to rank first in GAA (2.06) among active AHL goaltenders. He also ranks second in save percentage (.930) among active goaltenders. Brust helped kill off all 19 short handed situations in the three games last week helping move the team's overall PK to 86.1%, good for fifth in the league.

The Rochester Americans earned their first road win this season in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Houston Aeros Wednesday night. After two periods of play the game was tied 1-1 but Rochester's net-minder Mike Brodeur knocked aside 3-of-4 Aeros shootout attempts for the win.

Houston Aeros net-minder Barry Brust blocked 33 of 34 shots as the offense posted four goals in a 4-1 victory over the Quad City Flames Thursday night. John Scott's first period goal was his second of the season through 16 games played. Last season he recorded a total of three goals in 64 games.

After a 1-1 tie coming out of the first period it was all Houston Aeros in the second when they tallied five goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Hershey Bears. 9,113 fans were on hand at Toyota Center Saturday night were on hand to see the Aeros set a couple of season records to upset the league's best team. Houston has now recorded at least a point in eight of the last nine games. Six Aeros' players posted two or more points each: Jesse Schultz (1-2=3), Krys Kolanos (2-1=3), Jason Deitsch (1-1=2), Peter Olvecky (1-1=2), Marco Rosa (0-2=2) and Corey Locke (1-1=2). Locke extended his point streak to five games totaling ten points (5-5=10), the longest point and assist streak this season for the Aeros.
