Manchester Monarchs News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two goals from Danick Paquette powered the Manchester Monarchs past the Fort Wayne Komets, 5-3, Friday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

With the win, the Monarchs (18-9-0-1) took the first and only regular season meeting with the Komets (11-10-1-0).

The Monarchs got on the board when Danick Paquette scored on the power play, his 2nd goal of the season, at 18:49 of the opening period. Austin Block fired a slap shot from the left point that hit Paquette in the leg, redirecting the puck past Komets goaltender, Spencer Martin, for the 1-0 Monarchs lead.

Stefan Legein added to the Monarchs advantage at 6:42 in the second frame, scoring his 7th goal of the season from the left face-off circle. Matt Leitner skated down the right boards and found a trailing Legein, who snapped the puck through Martin to double the Monarchs lead.

Darik Angeli gave the Monarchs a three-goal lead, when he potted his 3rd goal of the season at 10:12 of the second period. Angeli stole the puck in the center-ice face-off circle, drove down the right wing, toe-dragged around a Komets defender, and beat Martin, five-hole, from the slot.

The Komets got on the board at 18:29 in the second period when Mike Embach scored his 9th goal of the season. After a scrum in front of the net, Embach lifted the puck into the top right corner of the cage, but the goal was disputed by the Monarchs, as the net was seemingly off its moorings when the puck hit the twine. After a discussion with the goal judge, the call was a good goal, breaking the shutout of Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens.

Paquette didn't take long to give the Monarchs the three-goal lead back, scoring a short-handed goal at 19:52 of the period. Paquette took a mishandled puck at the red line, skated in all alone on Martin and buried a shot just under the glove of the Komets goalie.

Brett Perlini cut into the Monarchs lead, scoring his 7th goal of the season at 3:48 of the third period. Perlini found a loose puck in front of Stevens and wristed home the second goal of the game for Fort Wayne.

The Komets wouldn't go quietly, as Garrett Meurs brought Fort Wayne to within one, scoring his 3rd goal of the season at 13:26 of the final frame. Meurs sent a wrist shot through a Monarchs defender from the high slot, beating Stevens high over his blocker.

Max Kitsyn sealed the deal for the Monarchs with an empty-net goal. Kitsyn sent home his 8th goal of the season from the neutral zone at 19:04.

The Monarchs are back on the ice tomorrow, Dec. 19 (7:20 p.m.), when they visit the Toledo Walleye in their last game before the Christmas break.
