LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Hartford (1/18): Goaltender Barry Brust made 29 saves and left wing Noah Clarke scored the game-winner as the Manchester Monarchs beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-3 at the Hartford Civic Center on Wednesday night. Six different Monarchs players scored in the victory, besides Clarke, left wing Petr Kanko, center Yanick Lehoux, right wing Ryan Murphy, left wing Jeff Tambellini and right wing Lauri Tukonen lit the lamp. The Wolf Pack collected tallies from defenseman Daniel Girardi, center Jarkko Immonen and left wing Daniel Sparre. Hartford goaltender Al Montoya took the loss stopping 11 shots through 34 minutes of play before being replaced by Robert Gherson who made six saves. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Hartford was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

At Omaha (1/20): A multi-point game for right wing Konstantin Pushkarev, left wing Jeff Tambellini and right wing Brad Smyth lifted the Manchester Monarchs to a 4-1 victory over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Friday night. Pushkarev scored twice while Smyth and left wing Noah Clarke collected insurance goals. The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' lone goal came off of the stick of center Justin Taylor. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust earned his 10th victory of the season stopping 26 shots. Omaha's goaltender Brent Krahn took the loss with 21 saves. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Omaha was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

At Iowa (1/21): Early goals by the Iowa Stars gave them the momentum to beat the Manchester Monarchs, 4-2, at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Left wing Loui Eriksson and center Jamie Johnson scored early for the Stars. Monarchs center Yanick Lehoux and left wing Jeff Tambellini answered back with a goal each but it wasn't enough as center Kyle Brodziak scored the game-winner and defenseman Mario Scalzo added an insurance goal for the Stars. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust took the loss with 24 saves. Stars goaltender Mike Smith earned the victory stopping 32 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Iowa was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Peoria (1/22): Center Trent Whitfield collected three assists to lift the Peoria Rivermen over the Manchester Monarchs, 4-1, at Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center on Sunday night. Left wing Charles Linglet, right wing Mike Glumac and right wing Lee Stempniak (2) scored for the Rivermen. Left wing Jeff Tambellini scored the lone goal for the Monarchs as he redirected defenseman Marty Wilford's shot from the point. Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser took the loss stopping 28 shots. Rivermen goaltender Patrick Lalime earned the victory with 24 saves on 25 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Peoria was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

1/19/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) reassigned center Shay Stephenson to the Reading Royals (ECHL).

1/18/06: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned defenseman Denis Grebeshkov on loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

1/17/06: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled defenseman Richard Petiot and center Matt Ryan from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

1/17/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman Chris Barr to a professional tryout agreement.

1/16/06: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled goaltender Jason LaBarbera from his conditioning assignment with the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

MONARCHS EVENTS & PROMOTIONS

Thursday, January 25, 2006 - The Monarchs will hold their 2005-06 Kids Club Members Only Party at the SEE Science Center in the Manchester Millyard from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Kids Club members will have the opportunity to meet the Monarchs players and Max!

Friday, January 27, 2006 - The first 5,000 fans to the Monarchs game on Friday versus the Toronto Marlies will receive a Monarchs T-shirt, courtesy of St. Mary's Bank.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (26-13-1-4, 57 points) are in second place in the Atlantic Division. The Portland Pirates (27-11-3-3, 60 points) are three points ahead of the Monarchs to lead the Atlantic Division.

The club has sent 17 out of their 44 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning 12 out of those 17 games.

Manchester is 7-4 in shootouts and 5-1 in overtime games this season.

The Monarchs are undefeated at home on Sundays (4-0-0-0).

At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they are leading after the second period (6-0-0-0) and in one-goal games (9-0-1-2).

Manchester is undefeated (9-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.

With special teams, the Monarchs power play is ranked 25th in the League, capitalizing 34 times on 264 opportunities with the man advantage. Ranked 11th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 46 goals on 281 opportunities.

Manchester has the lowest number of penalty minutes in the AHL with 729 penalty minutes.

The Monarchs lead the AHL in attendance after 20 home games, averaging 8,502 fans per game.

Right wing Brad Smyth (21-26=47) leads the team with 26 assists and 47 points.

The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario, Smyth's 47 points are tied for seventh among the AHL's top scorers.

Smyth is ranked 11th in the AHL with a plus/minus of plus-15.

Left wing Jeff Tambellini is second in team scoring for the Monarchs with 44 points (21-23=44).

Tambellini and Smyth are tied for the team's lead in goal scoring with 21 goals each.

A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked third in the AHL among rookie scorers (44 points), third among rookie goal scorers (21) and is tied for fifth among rookies in assists (23).

Tambellini is tied for first place among AHL rookies and tied for third in the AHL with his team leading plus/minus of plus-18.

Rookie left wing Tambellini is currently on a four game point streak, collecting six points (3-3=6) on the Monarchs recent four game road trip.

Right wing Petr Kanko is tied for second place in the AHL with three shorthanded goals on the season.

Center Yanick Lehoux participated in his 200th game in a Monarchs uniform on Wednesday, January 18 versus the Hartford Wolf Pack. Over parts of five season, Lehoux has 62 goals, 85 assists and 147 points in 203 games.

Lehoux surpassed former Monarchs right wing Pavel Rosa on the Monarchs all-time assist leader board when he helped out on Tambellini's goal on Saturday, January 21 versus the Iowa Stars. Lehoux has 85 assists with the Monarchs since joining the team during the 2001-02 season.
