
Admirals End Road Trips With Wins

NORFOLK, VA - Last week, the Admirals played five road games in five different cities, finishing strong with a win over East Division rivals Binghamton and Philadelphia. Norfolk began the week by defeating Bridgeport 4-3 on Monday, January 16th. After dropping contests to Albany 4-3 on the 18th and Springfield 5-2 on the 20th, the Admirals stormed back to pound the Senators 6-2 on Saturday, sparked by Mark Cullen's five-point night. On Sunday, newly signed goaltender Mike McKenna made 39 saves in his AHL debut, and Carl Corazzini and Nathan Barrett had a goal and an assist each as Norfolk beat Philadelphia 4-3 in a shootout.
The Admirals face Hershey thrice this week, twice home and once away, and visit Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
STANDINGS At 21-16-2-2 (46 pts), Norfolk is currently tied for third in the East with Bridgeport (21-20-2-2, 46 pts). The division is led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (32-6-3-1, 68 pts) followed by Hershey in second (26-10-2-7, 61 pts). Binghamton (17-21-2-2, 38 pts) and Philadelphia (17-23-0-4, 38 pts) are tied for fifth place.

TEAM NOTEBOOK - Mark Cullen netted a hat trick and five total points in Norfolk's 6-2 win at Binghamton on January 21st. He became the first Norfolk player to record two hat tricks in one season as well as in his Admirals' career, plus, he tied a franchise mark for most points in one game (Brett McLean, 2g, 3a 10/8/03 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton). - Cullen has points in eight straight contests (8g, 9a since January 7th vs. Lowell), the longest point streak by an Admiral this season. - Norfolk is now 9-0-1-1 when leading after one period and 16-0-0-1 with the lead after 20 minutes of play. - In their past eight games (since 1/7 vs. LOW), the Ads are 16-54 on the power play (29.63). - Carl Corazzini has points in four straight matches (since 1/18 at ALB) and 11 points (5g, 6a) in the last eight contests (since 1/7 vs. LOW). - In the past nine contests, Nathan Barrett has netted four goals and eight assists for 12 points. - Corey Crawford was recalled to Chicago (NHL) on January 22nd. He stopped all seven shots he faced in relief of Adam Munro in his NHL debut vs. Minnesota. - Mike McKenna was signed to a PTO on Sunday from Las Vegas (ECHL). He made his AHL debut at Philadelphia that evening, making 39 saves and stopping four of five shootout attempts to earn the win. - On January 20th, the Chicago Blackhawks dealt Anton Babchuk and a fourth round pick in 2007 to the Carolina Hurricanes for Danny Richmond and a 4th round pick (from Columbus) in 2006.
