LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Hartford (12/14): Goaltender Al Montoya made 29 saves to lead the Hartford Wolf Pack over the Manchester Monarchs 4-1 at the Hartford Civic Center on Wednesday night. Center Connor James scored the lone Monarchs goal. Defenseman Ivan Baranka and centers Jeff Taffe, Dwight Helminen and Alexandre Giroux collected tallies for the Wolf Pack. Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser took his fifth loss of the season stopping 24 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

Vs. Albany (12/16): Goaltender Adam Hauser earned his first shutout of the season with 19 saves as the Manchester Monarchs blanked the Albany River Rats 3-0 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs collected unassisted goals from right wing Konstantin Pushkarev and defenseman Mark Ardelan. Right wing Brad Smyth also tallied his 10th of the season for Manchester. River Rats goaltender Frank Doyle took the loss with 31 saves. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Lowell (12/17): Goaltender Adam Hauser earned his second consecutive shutout and has gone 149 minutes and 22 seconds without allowing a goal as the Manchester Monarchs topped the Lowell Lock Monsters 3-0 at the Tsongas Arenea on Saturday night. Left wing Noah Clarke and right wings Brad Smyth and Ryan Murphy scored for the Monarchs. Lock Monsters goaltender Cam Ward made 23 saves as he took his first loss of the season since being sent to Lowell on a conditioning assignment from the Carolina Hurricanes. Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Lowell was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

12/16/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled right wing Petr Kanko from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
12/15/05: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) recalled center Greg Hogeboom from the Reading Royals (ECHL).
12/13/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled left wing Jeff Giuliano from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (18-6-1-3, 40 points) are in second place in the Atlantic Division; only two points behind the Portland Pirates (20-7-2-0, 42 points) with one game in hand.

The club has sent 15 out of their 28 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning 11 out of those 15 games.

Manchester has won seven games in regulation.

The Monarchs are undefeated at home on Fridays (5-0-0-0) and Sundays (2-0-0-0).

The Monarchs are undefeated on the road on Tuesdays (1-0-0-0) and Thursdays (1-0-0-0).

At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they are out-shot by the opponent (8-0-0-0), leading after the first period (7-0-0-0), trailing after the second period (4-0-0-1), in one-goal games (7-0-1-1) and when they face an Atlantic Division opponent (8-0-1-1).

Manchester is undefeated (7-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.

With special teams, the Monarchs' power play is ranked 26th in the League, capitalizing 20 times on 175 opportunities with the man advantage. Ranked 14th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 32 goals on 194 opportunities.

The Monarchs are ranked first in the AHL in attendance after 13 home games, averaging 8,150 fans per game. Over the last four years, the Monarchs have been in the top three in attendance, leading the AHL twice. During the 2003-04 season, Manchester led all of North American minor league pro hockey with an average of 9,141 fans per game.

Manchester has played Hartford five times this season, winning all three home games (3-0-0-0) and losing both road games (0-2-0-0).

The Monarchs do not have a regulation loss in their last nine home games (7-0-1-1).

Left wing Jeff Tambellini (15-13=28) leads the team with 15 goals.

A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked third in the AHL among rookie scorers (28 points), second among rookie goal scorers (15 goals), ninth among AHL goal scorers (15 goals) and 10th among rookie assist leaders (13 assists).

Tambellini is tied for sixth in the AHL and fourth among AHL rookies with a plus/minus of plus-13.

Right wing Brad Smyth (11-18=29) leads the team with 18 assists and 29 points on the season.

Smyth is ranked first in the AHL with a plus/minus of plus-17.

At 6-foot, 200-pounds and a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Smyth is currently on a six-game point streak collecting seven points (4-3=7).

Center Connor James is also on a six-game point streak registering six points (3-3=6).

Defenseman Richard Petiot's plus-13 is ranked fifth among AHL rookies, seventh overall and fifth among AHL defensemen.

Defenseman Marty Wilford's plus-13 is ranked ninth in the AHL and sixth among AHL defensemen.

Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov is ranked 12th among AHL defensemen with 15 assists.

Goaltender Adam Hauser is ranked second among AHL goaltenders with 13 wins on the season.

Hauser collected his first two shutouts of the season last week with a 3-0 victory over the Albany River Rats on Friday, December 16 and a 3-0 victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, December 17.

At 6-foot-2, 194-pounds and a native of Bovey, Minnesota, Hauser is ranked number-one on the Monarchs all-time shutout list with 14 shutouts in 95 games played in a Monarchs' uniform.

Right wing Petr Kanko was called up by the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, December 16 and appeared in his first game that night against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Kanko recorded his first NHL goal that night to tie the game. The Kings beat the Mighty Ducks 4-3 in a shootout.

Left wing Jeff Giuliano has appeared in 12 games with the Kings this season. The 5-foot-9, 205-pound native of Nashua, New Hampshire, collected his first two NHL points (both assists) in the Kings games this weekend. Giuliano assisted on Kanko's first NHL goal on Friday, December 16 versus Anaheim. Then Giuliano assisted on center Michael Cammalleri's goal against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, December 17 in the Kings 4-1 victory. Giuliano, Kanko and Cammalleri played on the same line this weekend. That line has been penned the "We Three Kings" line.
