Admirals Recapture Third Place

NORFOLK, VA - This past weekend, the Admirals earned five of a possible six points in the standings to re-take third place in the East Division. On Friday, December 16th, Quintin Laing scored twice, Martin St. Pierre converted twice in a shootout, and Corey Crawford stopped six of seven shootout attempts as the Ads defeated Binghamton 6-5. At Wilkes-Barre the next night, Mikhail Yakubov forced overtime with a third period tally, but the Penguins sneaked a 2-1 decision in another shootout. On Sunday, December 18th, the Ads and Sound Tigers exchanged four first period goals in a span of 4:39, and Mark Cullen netted a hat trick as the Admirals went on to down Bridgeport 5-2.
Norfolk concludes a four-game road tilt with one contest at Binghamton on Wednesday.
STANDINGS At 13-11-2-2 (30 pts), Norfolk is currently third in the East. The division is led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (23-2-2-1, 49 pts) followed by Hershey in second (19-5-2-4, 44 pts). Philadelphia (13-15-0-3, 29 pts), Bridgeport (11-18-2-0, 24 pts) and Binghamton (9-15-2-2, 22 pts) trail the Admirals.

TEAM NOTEBOOK - After going 2-0-0-1 this past weekend, Norfolk has now picked up at least one point in eight of its last nine games (6-1-1-1 since November 26th at Hershey). - Mark Cullen netted the second hat trick by an Admiral this season at Bridgeport on Sunday. It was the first hat trick by a Norfolk player in an opposing venue. - The Admirals' 6-5 shootout win over Binghamton on Friday and 2-1 shootout loss to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday were the team's second and third non-losses this year in games in which they trailed after two periods of play (1-8-1-1). - Norfolk is winless in six games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year (0-3-2-1), but has forced overtime in three of their last four meetings. - Corey Crawford went undefeated in three appearances this past weekend (2-0-1) and is currently eighth in the AHL in goals against average with a 2.31 GAA. - When Crawford came into the game in relief of Adam Munro on the 16th, it marked the first time this season two goalies appeared in one game for Norfolk. - Martin St. Pierre has points in six straight contests (3g, 4a) and an assist in four straight games. - James Wisniewski has a five-game point streak (1g, 5a) and an assist in each of those matches. - Quintin Laing has 10 points (3g, 7a) over the last 10 games (since November 25th vs. Hershey).
