Manchester Monarchs News Release
LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Portland (11/23): Centers Ryan Getzlaf and Aaron Gavey scored in the shootout as the Portland Pirates sneaked past the Manchester Monarchs, 5-4, at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Wednesday night. Left wing Jeff Tambellini (2), center Matt Ryan and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev scored goals for the Monarchs. Getzlaf (2), center Tim Brent and right wing Corey Perry tallied for the Pirates. Monarchs' goaltender Adam Hauser made 38 saves during the game. Pirates' goaltender Gregg Naumenko stopped 28 shots. Manchester went 1-for-9 on the power play. Portland was also 1-for-9 with the man advantage.
Vs. Hartford (11/25): Right wing Lauri Tukonen scored the lone shootout goal to push the Manchester Monarchs past the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, in a shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Monarchs left wing Jeff Tambellini and Wolf Pack's center Alexandre Giroux scored in regulation. Monarchs' goaltender Adam Hauser stopped 30 shots in regulation and all five shooters in the shootout. Hartford's goaltender Robert Gherson stopped 25 shots and four shooters in the shootout. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
At Springfield (11/26): Center Yanick Lehoux scored twice and goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji collected 37 saves as the Manchester Monarchs skated past the Springfield Falcons, 6-3, at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Along with Lehoux; Giuliano, Pushkarev (2) and Ryan scored for the Monarchs. Saturday's game was Lehoux's first since rejoining the team after brief stints in Europe and with the Phoenix Coyotes organization. Fukufuji's AHL debut-win made history, as he is believed to be the first Japanese born player to play in the AHL. The Falcons received goals from left wings Mitch Fritz and David Spina and forward Ryan Vesce. Falcons' goaltender Brian Eklund took his fifth loss of the season with 20 saves. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
Vs. Providence (11/27): Three snipers scored in the shootout to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Providence Bruins, 4-3, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday evening. Left wing Noah Clarke, center Yanick Lehoux and right wing Brad Smyth scored in the shootout and center Connor James and right wings Petr Kanko and Lauri Tukonen tallied in regulation for the Monarchs. The Bruins got on the board with goals from centers Tyler Redenbach (2) and Nathan Robinson in regulation. Former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey was the lone Bruins player to score in the shootout. Monarchs' goaltender Adam Hauser earned his eighth win of the season stopping 30 shots. Bruins' goaltender Jordan Sigalet stopped 14 shots in the loss. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
11/26/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled left wing Ryan Flinn from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
11/25/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) claimed center Yanick Lehoux off of waivers and assigned him to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
11/25/05: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) returned defenseman Tyler Hanchuck on loan to the Reading Royals (ECHL).
11/22/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned left wings Jeff Giuliano and Ryan Flinn on loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (13-3-0-3, 29 points) are two points out of first place in the Atlantic Division behind the Portland Pirates (15-5-1-0, 31 points). The club has sent 12 out of their 19 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning nine out of those 12 games.
Manchester is undefeated in regulation (6-0-0-2) in their last eight road games.
The Monarchs are also undefeated in regulation (8-0-0-2) in the their last 10 games, including their last five home games (4-0-0-1).
Manchester has only won four games in regulation.
At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they are out-shot by the opponent (7-0-0-0), leading after the first period (4-0-0-0), trailing after the second period (4-0-0-1), in one-goal games (6-0-0-1) and when they face an Atlantic Division opponent (4-0-0-1).
On the road, the Monarchs are undefeated when they out-shoot the opponent (3-0-0-0).
The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring shorthanded (3-0-0-0) and when they allow a shorthanded goal (4-0-0-0).
Manchester is undefeated (7-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.
With special teams, the Monarchs' power play is ranked 19th in the League, capitalizing 17 times on 123 opportunities with the man advantage. Ranked 20th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 27 goals on 139 opportunities.
Manchester has the lowest number of penalty minutes (358) in the League.
The Monarchs are ranked second in the AHL in attendance after eight home games, averaging 8,378 fans per game. Over the last four years, the Monarchs have been in the top three in attendance, leading the AHL twice. During the 2003-04 season, Manchester led all of North American minor league pro hockey with an average of 9,141 fans per game.
Center Yanick Lehoux returns to the Monarchs after playing in Europe and a brief stint with the Phoenix Coyotes organization earlier this season. In his first game back in a Monarchs uniform, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound native of Repentigny, Quebec, scored two goals on Saturday, November 26 versus the Springfield Falcons.
Goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji made history on Saturday, November 26, as he became the first Japanese born player to play in the American Hockey League. Fukufuji stopped 37 shots by the Falcons for his debut victory.
Left wing Jeff Tambellini (14-11=25) leads the team with 14 goals and 25 points.
A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked first in the AHL among rookies, fourth among goal scorers and sixth in scoring with 25 points (14-11=25) in 18 games.
Tambellini has recorded three-points in a game five times this season: one goal and two assists against Hartford on October 30; one goal and two assists against Bridgeport on November 4; two goals and one assist against Hershey on November 12; two goals and one assist against Providence on November 18 and two goals and one assist against Portland on November 23.
The team is 8-0-0-2, when Tambellini scores a goal and 10-0-0-2, when he records a point.
The Monarchs are 8-0-0-2 when both Tambellini and right wing Brad Smyth record a point in the same game.
Smyth (7-15=22) leads the team with 15 assists.
The team is 5-0-0-1 when Smyth scores a goal and 9-1-0-3 when he records a point.
