The Iowa Stars welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins to Wells Fargo Arena for the first of two meetings this season on Tuesday night--- Twenty games into the season, the Griffins enjoy their best start in franchise history. Bolstered by an 11-1-0-2 record over their last 14 games has given the Griffins a record of 15-3-0-2 and 32 points, and a three-point lead over Manitoba in the North Division. Grand Rapids has compiled a 0.800 winning percentage that ranks first in the Western Conference and second overall in the AHL--- Grand Rapids has scored 83 goals, its most ever through 20 games. In addition, the Griffins have scored five or more goals 10 times, surpassing their total of seven from last season--- Grand Rapids' 8-2-0-0 record on the road ranks second (WB/S is #1) in the AHL. Nine of their next 12 games are on the road.

The Iowa Stars travel to Omaha, Nebraska for the third time in seven days to face the Knights. The last meeting saw David Oliver force overtime in Sunday's game enroute to an eventual 2-1 shootout win. Oliver scored with just :45 seconds remaining in the third period--- Goalie Dan Ellis has played in three of the four games against Omaha this season, losing 1-0 on Oct. 8th and 2-0 on Oct. 25th, with an empty net goal on the 25th. Combined with Sunday's 29 save performance, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has allowed just three goals against the Knights this season, stopping 73 of 76 shots, a .961 save percentage and a .98 GAA--- The shootout victory was the Stars second win in two such chances--- The Knights are now 10-8-0-4 and host Grand Rapids on Thursday.

The Stars earned a 2-0 shutout, the Stars second in franchise history, last Saturday night in Peoria. Mike Smith holds claim to both--- This Saturday, the game will feature the conclusion of the November 13th game. The third period of that game will be played at 7:05 with an 18 minute intermission before the start of the regularly scheduled game--- Peter Sejna paces the club with 23 points through 16 games, averaging 1.45 points per game--- Peoria is 11-5-0-1, 23 points this season--- The Rivermen are in Milwaukee on Wednesday and host Grand Rapids on Friday.

STAR DUST:

- Goalie Mike Smith has earned both shutouts in Stars history. This past Saturday, 2-0 in Peoria and a 1-0 whitewash of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, November 19th.

- The Iowa Stars are 1-0 in overtime and 2-0 when the game needs to be decided by a shootout.

- All three of Captain Dan Jancevski's goals this season have come on the power-play. The defenseman leads the team with those three power-play goals.

- Forward Toby Petersen leads the team with 13 points: (5/8/13).

- Forward David Oliver returned from injury on Friday night and proceeded to register an assist and then potted the game-tying goal on Sunday. He has one goal and three assists in seven games with Iowa: 7(1/3/4)

- Forwards Garrett Burnett (104) and Zack Stortini (95) are listed fourth and sixth in overall penalty minutes, respectively. Burnett is the only player listed in the Top 10 that has played in 10 games or less this season.

NOTES: The Iowa Stars lost 3-1 to the Omaha Knights on Friday night in Nebraska. Forward Yan Stastny netted the lone goal for the visiting Stars. With the loss, Iowa has been defeated in all three games they have played against the Knights. Friday night featured the return of David Oliver to the Stars lineup. Oliver had been sidelined since the November 8th game vs. Milwaukee. He earned the second assist on Stastny's goal.

NOTES: Exactly one week to the day, goalie Mike Smith earned the Iowa Stars second franchise shutout victory on Saturday night, a 2- 0 blanking of the Peoria Rivermen. A native of Kingston, Ontario, Smith turned aside all 29 Rivermen shots, including 13 in the first period. Smith has earned both Stars shutouts this season. His first whitewash came last Saturday night with a 1-0 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Rookie forward B.J. Crombeen netted his third goal of the season, the eventual game-winner, with 1:13 left in the first period. Loui Eriksson and Brian Fahey earned the assists. Eriksson potted his fourth of the 2005-06 season on the power-play at 13:20 of the second period. Crombeen picked-up the first assist on Eriksson's goal. Saturday's road victory over Peoria snapped the Stars three-game road winless streak.
