Moose finish week strong

The Manitoba Moose just completed a busy week which saw them play five games in seven nights against three different teams. The Moose started off the week at home with two losses, one in a shootout, against the North Division first-place Grand Rapids Griffins. Manitoba then headed out on the road and managed to complete a sweep of all three games on the weekend. The first was a exciting, come from behind, win in Toronto against the Marlies. Sebastien Centomo recorded a shutout in a 3-0 win over Cleveland on Saturday and the Moose concluded the week in style with a 3-1 win against the Barons on Sunday afternoon.

The Moose now return home for four games against North Division opponents at the MTS Centre. They will take on Hamilton on Tuesday and Wednesday night, and Rochester will roll into town for Friday and Saturday night games.

Hamilton Bulldogs

November 29th & 30th, 7:30pm

MTS Centre

The Moose will take on Hamilton in the first and second of eight meetings between the clubs this season. The Bulldogs currently sit sixth in the North Division with an 8-13-0-1 record for 17 points. They are good on the powerplay with a 19.8% scoring rate placing them 7th in the AHL. Hamilton has struggled on the penalty kill this year however, with opposing teams scoring 22.0% of the time sitting them 26th in the league. Corey Locke has done well for the Bulldogs this year recording six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 22 games played. Hamilton has split their goaltending duties between five different players this year with Jeff Deslaurier being the active keeper with the majority of games played. Deslaurier has played in five games this year with a 2- 3-0 record. He has recorded a 2.97 GAA with 90.6 save percentage.

Rochester Americans

December 2nd & 3rd, 7:30pm

The Moose will finish up the week as the Americans come to town for the third and fourth of eight meetings between the teams this season. Rochester won 6- 5 in overtime in the earlier meeting this season. Rochester currently sits third in the North Division, right behind the Moose, with 24 points. Rochester has been terrific on special teams this year siting first in the league on the powerplay scoring exactly a quarter of the time. They are good on the penalty kill as will boasting an 87.0% kill rate good enough for sicth in the AHL. Jason Pominville is having a great start to his season, scoring 19 goals and adding seven helpers for 26 points in only 18 games played. Michael Leighton and Jean-Marc Pelletier split the goaltending duties for the Amerks with Leighton playing in 12 games and Pelletier in eight. Leighton boasts a 6-6-0 record with a 2.76 GAA and a 89.6 save percentage. Pelletier is 6-2-0 in eight games with a 4.22 GAA and an 86.4 save percentage.

MOOSE NOTES

Road Sweep: With their 3-1 win over Cleveland on Sunday afternoon, the Moose completed a three-game sweep of their road trip. This marked the first time the Moose have swept a road trip since four straight wins in Texas from Jan. 11- 16/05 (two over San Antonio, two over Houston). It also marked only the fifth time the Moose have swept a road trip of three games or more in their 10-year history.

Centomo Stands Out in Moose Debut: Recently signed Moose goalie Sebastien Centomo stopped all 15 shots he faced in his Moose debut Saturday in Cleveland AND collected his second career AHL assist. The first came in the 2001-02 season, where he played in 25 games for the St. John's Maple Leafs boasting a 12- 7-4 recording. It was the Moose netminder fifth career AHL shutout.

End to a Powerplay Slump: Before Tomas Mojzis' second period powerplay goal on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, the Moose had failed to score a powerplay goal in their last 17 attempts. The most recent powerplay goal for Mantoba, before Sunday, came on Wednesday, November 23rd against Grand Rapids when forward Nathan Smith scored late in the second period. After that Manitoba was 0-for-5 in Toronto on Friday and 0- for-8 in Cleveland on Saturday. The Moose powerplay has scored 26 times on 156 attempts for a 16.7% average, good enough for 12th in the AHL.

The Schultz Show: After scoring the game winner on Friday in Toronto, an empty netter in Cleveland on Saturday and the first goal on Sunday against the Barons, Moose forward Jesse Schultz now has a three-game scoring streak going and has seven points in five games, scoring 10 goals in his last 11 games. Schultz now leads the team in scoring with 15 goals and five assists for 20 points in 23 games played with the Moose this season. Schultz also sits second in the AHL in goals with 15, right behind Jason Pominville of Rochester who has netted 19 goals in 18 games played. Schultz was the Moose player of the week nominee for this week. (Nov 21st - Nov 27th).

Jesse Schultz appeared in all five games for the Manitoba Moose this week - with a 3-1-0-1 record. He finished with five goals, two assists for seven points in five games with ten shots and was a +5. he netted two goals in Tuesday night's game against Grand Rapids and scored the game-winner on Friday in Toronto - his second of the season. Schultz now leads the Moose in goal-scoring with a career-high 15 goals which leaves him second in the entire AHL. He also leads the team in overall points with 20. He is tied for the team lead in powerplay goals with four.
