Peoria Rivermen News Release

Wednesday, November 30, RIVERMEN @ Milwaukee; Sunday, December 4, Milwaukee @ RIVERMEN: The Peoria Rivermen will encounter the Milwaukee Admirals twice this week, first on Wednesday in Milwaukee to begin the week's action and then on Sunday in Peoria to conclude a stretch of four games in five nights. The two Rivermen-Admirals match-ups this week will open a season series between the two teams that will include a total of eight games. The primary affiliate of the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL), Milwaukee enters the week with the same record as Peoria at 11-5-0-1. Right winger Darren Haydar leads the Admirals in scoring right now with 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists) in 17 appearances. For his stellar performance last week, Admirals goaltender Brian Finley earned the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week award. In three games last week, Finley posted three wins, two shutouts, and 96 saves on 97 shots. The Admirals special-teams units are both among the best in the American Hockey League (AHL). On the power play, Milwaukee ranks fifth at 21.5 percent, and the squad is second to only Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in penalty killing at 88.8 percent.

Friday, December 2, Grand Rapids @ RIVERMEN: On Friday, the Rivermen will return home to Carver Arena to meet the Grand Rapids Griffins for the first time this season. Peoria will face the top development club of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings only four times in 2005-06, twice at Carver Arena and twice at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins now sit atop the North Division of the Western Conference with a 15-3-0-2 record and 32 points. Grand Rapids' scoring leader, center Jiri Hudler, now ranks second overall in the AHL with 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in only 18 games played. Griffins goalie Drew MacIntyre also boasts a high League ranking with the AHL's fourth-best goals-against average of 1.99 to go along with a record of 6-1-0 and a save percentage of .930. On the power play, Grand Rapids now stands second in the AHL at 23.1 percent, while on the penalty kill, the team is 19th overall at 81.5 percent.

Saturday, December 3, RIVERMEN @ Iowa: The Rivermen will venture to Des Moines on Saturday to finish one game and play another. Immediately prior to the regularly scheduled contest between these two teams, Peoria and Iowa will finish their game that was suspended back on Sunday, November 13, due to unsafe ice conditions at Wells Fargo Arena. That game will be resumed from the start of the third period with the Rivermen leading 4-3. The Stars now occupy the fifth position in the West Division with 16 points and an 8-10-0-0 record. Defenseman Patrick Traverse continues to pace the Iowa offense with 12 points (1 goal, 11 assists) in 16 outings. Stars netminder Mike Smith shut out the Rivermen this past Saturday and now owns a 5-6-0 record, a 2.66 goals-against average, and a .912 save percentage. The Iowa power-play unit now stands 18th in the League at 13.8 percent, while the Iowa penalty-killing unit also ranks 18th in the AHL at 81.9 percent.

RIVERMEN ACTION LAST WEEK

Friday, November 25, RIVERMEN 4 vs. Chicago 1: The Rivermen avenged a shootout loss to the Wolves just one week prior to this game by beating Chicago 4-1 in this outing. Right wing Mike Glumac, who came into this contest as Peoria's second-leading scorer, led the Rivermen offense on this occasion with two goals, including the game-winner, on two shots and a plus-two rating. Rivermen center Blake Evans and left wing Peter Sejna each chipped in two assists and garnered a plus-two rating as well. The other two Peoria goals came from wingers D. J. King and Jon DiSalvatore, who scored his shorthanded. Jason Bacashihua started in net for Peoria and turned aside 27 of Chicago's 28 shots on goal to earn the win. The Rivermen out-shot the Wolves 31-28. Neither squad performed very well on the power play, as Peoria failed to convert any of its six opportunities, and Chicago went just one for six.

Saturday, November 26, Iowa 2 @ RIVERMEN 0: In their fourth meeting this season with the Iowa Stars, the Rivermen suffered their first shutout loss in franchise history by a score of 2-0. Wingers B. J. Crombeen and Loui Eriksson took care of the offense for Iowa with one goal and one assist each. At the other end of the ice, Stars goaltender Mike Smith thwarted all 29 shots on goal that the Rivermen took. Peoria netminder Reinhard Divis absorbed the loss, making 19 saves on 21 shots. Although they lost the game, the Rivermen did outshoot the Stars 29-21. Neither team operated very efficiently on the power play, as Peoria went zero for six, and Iowa went one for eight.
