Monarchs Recall Church, Reassign Chouinard

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have recalled left wing Brad Church and assigned goaltender Mathieu Chouinard to their ECHL Affiliate, the Reading Royals, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. The Monarchs also today recalled goaltender Terry Denike and reassigned him to the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League. Church, 27, has 20 points (10-10=20) and 30 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Royals this season. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Dauphin, Manitoba, leads the Royals in goals (10), points (20) and power play goals (5). Originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the first-round (17th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Church has 111 points (43-68=111) and 412 penalty minutes in 307 career AHL games with the Portland Pirates, the Cleveland Barons, the Lowell Lock Monsters and the Hamilton Bulldogs. Church will wear jersey No. 17 when he makes his Monarchs debut against the Utah Grizzlies on Friday, December 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Chouinard, 23, has appeared in eight games with the Monarchs this season. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound native of Boisbriand, Quebec, has a 2-2-0 record, a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .901 save-percentage. He also has a 1-0-0 record, a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .931 save-percentage in one appearance with the Royals this season. Originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first-round (15th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Chouinard has appeared in 37 career American Hockey League games with the Monarchs, the Binghamton Senators, and the Grand Rapid Griffins, recording a 15-14-1 record, a 2.45 goals-against-average and a .899 save-percentage.

Denike, 22, has appeared in two games with the Royals this season. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, has a 0-1-1 record, a 5.28 goals-against-average and a .861 save-percentage. Denike was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth-round (152nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The Monarchs take on the Utah Grizzles for the first time in franchise history on Friday, December 12 at 7:35 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs will hold their Third Annual Teddy Bear Toss during the game. Fans are encouraged to take stuffed animals to the game and throw them onto the ice during the first intermission. The stuffed animals will then be collected and donated to Child Health Services and Easter Seals.
