Coyotes Acquire Dyment from Minnesota for Schutte

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that the Phoenix Coyotes have acquired defenseman Chris Dyment (DIGH-mehnt) from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Michael Schutte (SHOOT).

Dyment, 24, has registered one goal and 12 penalty minutes in 13 games this season with the Houston Aeros, Minnesota'a AHL affiliate. The blueliner is in his second season as a professional. Dyment skated in 17 of Houston's 23 post-season games as a rookie last campaign during the club's march to a Calder Cup championship.

Prior to playing professionally, Dyment skated four seasons of college hockey at Boston University. The 6'3", 210-pound native of Reading, Massachusetts was named Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman and Second Team All-Hockey East for the 2001-02 season. He garnered Second Team JOFA All-American and First Team All-Hockey East honors following the 1999-00 campaign. Dyment led Terriers' defensemen in scoring as a sophomore in 1999-00 (11-20-31) and as a senior in 2001-02 (7-17-24). He was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Schutte collected two goals and two assists in 12 games with Springfield this season. The defenseman recorded 16 points (5g, 11a) in 48 games as a rookie with the Falcons last season before being loaned to the Lowell Lock Monsters on March 13th. Schutte was signed by Phoenix on May 23, 2002 after three seasons at the University of Maine.
