Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Tuesday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltenders Curtis Joseph and Joey MacDonald. As a result, the Griffins signed goaltender Bujar Amidovski to a professional tryout.

The three moves round out an extraordinary day for the Griffins, who experienced a record 10 transactions involving nine different players, five of whom - Joseph, MacDonald, Jiri Hudler, Niklas Kronwall and Kevin Miller - now find themselves with the Red Wings.

The 36-year-old Joseph, assigned by Detroit on Dec. 5, served as the backup to Marc Lamothe during the Griffins' 3-1 win over St. John's last Saturday.

He played one game for Grand Rapids during a rehab assignment earlier this season, making 20 saves and earning Second Star honors in a 4-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies at Van Andel Arena on Oct. 24. In five games with the Red Wings this season, Joseph shows a 2-3-0 record with one shutout, a 3.12 goals against average and a 0.885 save percentage.

MacDonald, 23, was recalled to the Red Wings from the ECHL's Toledo Storm, where he had been assigned from Grand Rapids earlier today. In eight games with the Griffins this season, he owns a 5-1-2 record with a 2.07 goals against average and a 0.938 save percentage. MacDonald may dress for his first NHL contest on Wednesday, when the Red Wings visit the Buffalo Sabres at 8 p.m.

Amidovski, 26, has played 12 games with the ECHL's Dayton Bombers this season, posting a 4-6-0 mark with a 3.10 GAA and a 0.895 GAA. The sixth-year pro logged 14 AHL games with Philadelphia and Saint John from 1998-2000, going 7-3-0 with a 3.14 GAA and a 0.905 save percentage.

Amidovski will serve as Lamothe's backup on Wednesday, when the first-place Griffins (15-6-4-0) try to extend their six-game winning streak and eight-game unbeaten streak in a 7 p.m. start against the Cleveland Barons at Gund Arena.
