MANCHESTER, NH - Right wing Brandon Kozun recorded what proved to be the game-winning goal in his two point game as the Manchester Monarchs posted a 3-1 win over the Worcester Sharks Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Manchester (10-6-1-1) recorded their 10th win of the season, placing them second in the Atlantic Division with 22 points. With the loss, the Sharks (7-5-1-2) remain in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 19 points.

"It was a great hockey game," explained Monarchs Assistant Coach Scott Pellerin following Friday night's victory. "We blocked shots and made timely saves. All-in-all, it was a great team effort."

When asked about center Brayden Schenn's play in his first American Hockey League contest Pellerin said, "[He] made adjustments very well. He had a great give and go with [defenseman Viatcheslav] Voynov. He also played well in all zones on the ice."

Kozun scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:26 of the second period. From the Monarchs zone, defenseman Thomas Hickey sent a feed toward a streaking Kozun who was crossing the blueline. Taking a few strides toward the top of the right face-off dot, he passed the puck to his left that connected with center Justin Azevedo. Holding the puck at the top of the circle, Azevedo sent a pass into the crease, connecting with a crashing Kozun. Fighting heavy crease traffic, Kozun forced the puck past goaltender Alex Stalock to give the Monarchs the one goal lead.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov scored his fourth goal of the season, a power play tally, at 6:43 of the first period. Entrenched in the offensive zone, Kozun dished the puck back to the point where Voynov was the lone defender. Voynov passed the puck to center Brayden Schenn in the right corner. Immediately following the pass, Voynov crept down the slot and received a quick return feed from Schenn that was blasted into the back of the net, putting the Monarchs on the board first.

Right wing Benn Ferreiro scored his 10th goal of the season at 10:06 of the first period. Set up in the umbrella formation during their extended five-on-three power play, Worcester fed the puck right-to-left across the top of the face-off circles. Defenseman Justin Braun, positioned at the left point, passed the puck to the top of the left face-off circle where Ferreiro was positioned. A powerful blast caught the stick of a Manchester defender, redirecting the puck over Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff's left shoulder for Worcester's first marker of the game.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche scored his first goal of the season at 13:42 of the third period. Center Oscar Moller gathered the puck in the offensive zone and fed center Andrei Loktionov stationed behind the net. Loktionov snuck a pass into the slot and through two Worcester defensemen that found Cliche. The center fired the puck past Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock to give the Monarchs their third goal of the contest.

Zatkoff (7-5-1) collected his seventh victory of the season, making 27 saves on 28 shots on goal. Stalock (6-6-1) dropped his sixth game of the season, halting 24-of-27 shots on net.

Manchester was 1-for-4 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
