Oklahoma City, OK - The Texas Stars (9-6-0-0, 18 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (10-6-1-1, 22 points) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 4,481 fans on Friday night at the Cox Convention Center. Texas center Aaron Gagnon ended the shootout in the fifth round, scoring the decisive goal for the road win. Stars goalie Richard Bachman (4-2-0) did the rest, stopping 35 shots in regulation and four of five in the shootout to preserve the win. Texas forward Travis Morin scored the only goal in regulation as the Stars improved to 4-2-0-0 on the road this year. Barons goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (0-3-0) made 17 saves in the third period and finished with 34 in the defeat. Texas will return home to face Milwaukee at 7:00 pm on Saturday night.
The Stars scored the lone goal of the first period, a power-play tally at 10:21 by Travis Morin. Defensemen Dan Spang fired a shot from the point that was tipped in the Barons crease past goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers. Morin's sixth goal of the season was also assisted by Severin Blindenbacher for the 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma City countered to tie the game 2:38 into the second period. Barons center Linus Omark centered the puck from the right-wing wall to Teemu Hartikainen in the Texas crease. Hartikainen sent a shot past Stars goalie Richard Bachman, scoring his sixth goal of the year and tying the game 1-1.
After a scoreless third period and overtime the two teams skated to a shootout tied 1-1. The Stars scored twice on five attempts with Tomas Vincour and Aaron Gagnon netting goals. Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped all but one of the five Barons shooters in the shootout.
