
Monarchs Announce 2008-09 Schedule

Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will open the 2008-09 season on the road versus the Portland Pirates on Saturday, October 11 at the Cumberland County Civic Center and the Monarchs home opener will be against the Lowell Devils at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, October 18, the AHL and the Monarchs announced on Thursday.
The Monarchs will open their eighth AHL season with two road games against the Pirates on Saturday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. and the Devils at the Tsongas Arena on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. The home season will open with a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Devils at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, October 18. The Monarchs will also host the Providence Bruins in their traditional New Years Eve celebration on Wednesday, December 31 at 7:00 p.m.
Manchester has moved all start times for home games Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays from 7:05 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Home games on Fridays will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday games will have the puck dropping at 4:00 p.m.
The Monarchs 80-game schedule includes 40 games at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. The Monarchs will meet 11 of their Eastern Conference rivals as well as six Western Conference foes during the 2008-09 season. Fifty-four of the Monarchs 80 games will be played against teams in the Atlantic Division, which includes the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Springfield Falcons, the Worcester Sharks, the Devils, the Pirates and the Bruins. The Monarchs will play Lowell, Portland and Springfield 10 times (five home and five road games) and Hartford, Providence and Worcester eight times (four home and four road games).
The Monarchs will also face five teams in the Eastern Conference's East Division, the Albany River Rats, the Hershey Bears, the Norfolk Admirals, the Philadelphia Phantoms and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Monarchs will play Norfolk four times (two home and two road games) and Albany, Hershey, Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton twice (one home and one road game).
Manchester's Western Conference opponents include the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Lake Erie Monsters, the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Manitoba Moose and the Rochester Americans from the North Division and the Chicago Wolves from the West Division. The Monarchs will play Manitoba four times (two home and two road games) and Chicago, Grand Rapids, Lake Erie, Hamilton and Rochester each twice (one home and one road game).
