
Iowa Chops announce 2008-09 schedule

DES MOINES, IA - (August 7, 2008) - The Iowa Chops, AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL, announced today the club's 80-game regular season schedule for the 2008-09 American Hockey League season. Iowa Chops President Steve Nitzel believes that this will be the most fan-friendly schedule in the now four-year history of professional hockey in Des Moines. "29 out of our 40 home games are on the weekend, so it will be much easier for our fans from all over the state to attend," said Nitzel. "I believe our schedule sends a clear message to Iowa Chops supporters that fans will have plenty of opportunity to come see this exciting team play and have a great time." The Iowa Chops season and home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 10th against the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05pm at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Season tickets, including 7, 14, 28 and 40-game plans, are on sale now and start as low as $9 per game for season tickets. Individual tickets for Iowa Chops regular season home games will go on sale later in August. Iowa Chops home games will begin at 7:05pm, expect on Sunday's, which begin at 5:05pm.
"From a hockey standpoint, this is a very good schedule for us," said Iowa Chops Assistant General Manager Bob Ferguson. "Every game presents a unique and difficult challenge, but there is a nice competitive balance for all the teams and makes it very fair." Highlights from the home schedule include the first of four visits by the 2008 Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves on Halloween Night, Friday, October 31st; Two pre-Thanksgiving weekend games against Milwaukee on November 21st and 22nd; A post-game skate with Santa and the Iowa Chops players on Saturday, December 20th; Back-to-back weekend home games against Houston and swine rival Rockford on February 6th and 7th; Back-to-Back weekend home games to end the Iowa Chops busiest month on February 27th and 28th; A game against Hamilton on St. Patrick's Day, Tuesday, March 17th and the regular season finale on April 11th against Quad City.
With a divisional format again in place for the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs, the Iowa Chops will play the bulk of their games within the West Division. The Iowa Chops most common opponent will be the Quad City Flames, whom they will play 12 times. They will play Milwaukee and Rockford 10 times, and Chicago, Houston, Peoria and San Antonio eight times. The Iowa Chops will also play six out of the seven teams from the North Division as well, including four games against Manitoba and Lake Erie, and two games a piece against Rochester, Toronto, Grand Rapids and Hamilton.
