Worcester Sharks Release 2008-09 Schedule for All-Star Season

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr released today in conjunction with the American Hockey League, the Worcester Sharks 2008-09 regular season schedule. The Sharks home opener will be on Saturday, October 18th vs. the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. at the DCU Center. Fans are encouraged to visit Sharksahl.com to view the schedule in its entirety.

The Sharks will commence the 2008-09 All-Star season with two games on the road, the first in Lowell as they take on the Devils at the Paul E. Tsongas Arena for a 7:00 p.m. game on Saturday, October 11th. After a visit with the Albany River Rats in Glens Falls, NY for a 7:30 p.m. match-up on Friday, October 17th, the Sharks will travel home for a battle against their divisional rival, the Providence Bruins.

Thirty-one of the 40 Sharks home games will be played on the weekends with 25 of the 31 occurring on either Fridays or Saturdays. Eighteen home games will take place in 2008 and 22 in 2009.

"We pride ourselves on being able to provide families with weekend entertainment and this schedule does exactly that," said Lehr. "For the third straight season, at least 31 of our 40 home dates are on the weekend which makes it easier for families to attend Sharks home games. We are extremely excited about the upcoming All-Star season."

The Sharks will face the Binghamton Senators for the first time since the 2006-07 season with one home game dedicated to each team. The Sharks will face off against Atlantic Division rival, Providence Bruins, for five home games with three taking place on Saturday nights.

For the second straight season, the Sharks will host a 1:05 p.m. matinee game at the DCU Center on Veteran's Day, November 12, against the Springfield Falcons. Team Teal will host a game on New Years Eve for the first time in team history, a 7:05 p.m. face-off vs. the Houston Aeros.

This season the Sharks will play 13 sets of three games in three nights and five sets of four games in five nights.

The Sharks will host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic on January 25th and 26th. It will be the first time in 50 years the All-Star Classic will be held in Massachusetts.
