August 7, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans open their 53rd season in the American Hockey League against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, October 10th at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.

The contest will be the first leg of a home-and-home series with the Crunch. The Amerks will travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch in game two of the series on Saturday, October 11th at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

In 2008-09, the Amerks will remain in the seven-team Western Conference's North Division. The division includes Rochester, Hamilton, Manitoba, Grand Rapids, Toronto, Lake Erie, and thruway rival, Syracuse.

This season, fans will have a chance to watch 18 of the league's 29 teams at The Blue Cross Arena. This season, Rochester's unbalanced 80-game schedule features 62 games against Western Conference opponents. The Amerks' divisional schedule includes six games against Lake Erie and Grand Rapids, while Rochester will battle Hamilton, Manitoba and Toronto in eight different occasions. Rochester still plays Syracuse 12 times.

After Rochester completes the I-90 thruway series with Syracuse, the Amerks will complete their opening weekend with the first visit of the season from the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 12th at The Blue Cross Arena.

Rochester's busiest months this season are November, January, February and March as the Amerks play a combined total of 53 games, which makes up more than half of their entire 80-game slate. The Amerks will skate in 14 games during the month of February this season, which is the most out of the seven-month schedule.

The Amerks close out their 2008 slate with 12 games in the month of December, with the first game of the month against the AHL's newest franchise, the Iowa Chops on Friday, December 5th. Rochester concludes its 2008 home schedule the day after Christmas with a matchup with the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday, December 26th.

The craziest home schedule is in November with Rochester spending eight of its 13 games at home. The month features five games as part of a six-game homestand, which begins on October 31st with a Halloween night contest against last season's North Division champion Toronto Marlies.

During the stretch, Rochester will be in action for a rare Monday evening contest on Monday, November 10th in a divisional showdown with the Manitoba Moose prior to Veteran's Day. The Amerks close out their season-high six-game homefront as they battle the 2008 defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves on Friday, November 14th. Rochester's November schedule concludes with a post-Thanksgiving contest on Friday, November 28th as the Lake Erie Monsters roll into town.

The Amerks will spend the most time away from the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena in the month of January as the team plays nine of its 13 games on the road. That stretch includes two-game sets in Grand Rapids and Manitoba.

The longest road trip of the season, however, takes place in February as Rochester journeys west to face Iowa, Chicago, Quad City, Rockford and Peoria from February 10th to February 18th.
