Amerks Moose Hits the Town this Weekend
August 7, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, August 7)... The Rochester Americans' mascot, The Moose, has a busy weekend ahead of him as the Amerks' furry friend will spend a couple days in the Rochester community as he continues his "Moose is on the Loose" campaign.
The weekend begins on Friday, August 8th at the Rochester Museum and Science Center (657 East Ave.) for Family Fridays. Moose will be on hand to greet families and sign autographs from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Moose will make the next stop on his itinerary on Saturday, August 9th at Rochester Children's Theatre Dog Festival being held at Nazareth College (4245 East Ave.). Fans can see him from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. mingling among the crowd and giving high-fives during the event.
The Moose continues his four-month adventure throughout Rochester and will make future stops at local businesses, parks, recreation centers and sporting events as he prepares for the 53rd season of Amerks hockey in 2008-09.
The Moose was originally imported as a mascot for the Rochester radio station WMJQ from 1979-1981. The big fellow made his first appearance at an Amerks hockey game in 1979. His first full season as the Amerks mascot was 1980-81. In his career, The Moose has appeared at over 1,000 home games, including 732 in a row. Besides appearing in charity events and visiting American Hockey League and National Hockey League arenas, he has given over one million smiles and countless high fives.
Make sure to keep a look out for information on The Moose's new Kids' Club for the upcoming season, with details to follow at Moose Trax (the Moose's future Internet home). To request an appearance, please call Tom Winslow at (585) 454-5335, ext. 3005.
