August 7, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced today their 80 game regular season schedule which begins on Saturday, October 11 versus the Binghamton Senators - AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators - at Ricoh Coliseum at 4:00 p.m.
Weekend games dominate the Marlies home schedule this season as the team will play a franchise high 33 of their 40 home games on weekend dates. This figure rises by one game from last season's total of 32 weekend dates. The home schedule predominantly features Saturday games, which will include 16 dates at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies will also play 12 Sunday home games, all of which will start at 4 p.m. Remaining home games are comprised of seven games on Wednesdays and five games on Fridays. All weekday games (including Fridays) begin at 7:00 p.m. with the lone exceptions being the Marlies two regular season school day games on November 26 versus Rochester - AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers - and February 11 versus the Syracuse Crunch - AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets - both starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Marlies longest road trip of the season will take place in January. The nine-game trip will see the club face seven of eight West Division opponents as the club visits Milwaukee, Quad City, Rockford, Iowa, Chicago, Houston and San Antonio between January 8 - 19. The trip will conclude on Friday, January 23 when the Marlies travel to Syracuse to play the Crunch. The team begins a season-high 11 game homestand starting on Saturday, January 24 against the 2008 Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves - AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers - with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and finishes on February 21 in a contest against the Rochester Americans at 4:00 p.m.
The Marlies will face a league-high 20 of 28 possible opponents in 2008-09, including the 2008 MacGregor Kilpatrick Trophy winning (regular season point's leader), Providence Bruins - AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins - for the first time in franchise history on Wednesday, March 4. The Marlies play their QEW rival, Hamilton Bulldogs 12 times during the 2008-09 season with their first match-up on October 22 in Toronto. Toronto will also oppose each team in their own division eight times this season (four home and four away), with the exception of playing the Bulldogs 12 times.
The Marlies will close-out the 2008-09 regular season schedule by hosting Manitoba on Friday, April 10 and Hamilton on Saturday, April 11 at Ricoh Coliseum.
