Missouri Topped 3-1 by Toledo
March 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
TOLEDO, OH (Friday, March 20)- The Missouri Mavericks were topped 3-1 by the Toledo Walleye on Friday night at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, in the first ECHL matchup between these two teams in franchise history. The Walleye capitalized on two man-advantages and an empty net situation to outshine the Mavs second period lamp-lighter.
The Mavericks owned shots on goal pressure coming out of a scoreless first period of play, 14-11, over the Toledo Walleye. The first strike of the game would not be scored until 15:23 of the second period when Tyler Barnes notched a power-play goal for the Walleye with an assist from Shane Sims and Shane Berschbach. The Mavs evened the scoreboard with only two minutes left in the frame when Ludwig Karlsson bested Toledo net minder, Jeff Lerg, with a lone assist from Geoff Walker.
The Walleye took back the lead, 2-1, over Missouri at 7:18 of the third period, scoring their second power-play of the evening. Troy Schwab was credited with the tally, assisted by Berschbach and Alden Hirschfeld. Missouri pulled net minder Josh Robinson from between the pipes in favor of the extra attacker with less than two minutes left in regulation, but were unable to tie the game and force an overtime decision before the Walleye scored an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left in the game via Schwab (assisted by Berschbach and Barnes).
The Missouri Mavericks play their next three games on the road before returning home to Independence Events Center on Saturday, Mar. 28 at 7:05p.m. when they host the Wichita Thunder for Fan Appreciation Night. The Mavs will be auctioning off the warm-up jerseys they have worn before every home game during the 2014-15 season directly after the game in sections 101 and 102.
