Road Warriors Defeat Cyclones, 4-1
March 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
GREENVILLE, South Carolina - A quick offensive outburst in the second period helped lift the Greenville Road Warriors (33-27-1-3) over the Cincinnati Cyclones (27-28-1-5) by a 4-1 final score in front of 3,628 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Friday night.
In a penalty-filled opening period, the Road Warriors came up empty on four power play chances while the Cyclones went with a goal on a pair of their own to keep the game scoreless through 20 minutes.
Greenville finally broke the stalemate midway through the middle frame as Emerson Clark broke in on net and sniped home a power play goal past Rob Madore (L, 22 saves, 12-17-1-4) to make it 1-0. Then, during a four-on-four scenario, Dallas Jackson caught a pass from Michael St. Croix and deposited his first goal of the season from the right circle to extend the Road Warriors' edge to a pair at the second intermission
Right out of gate in the final period, the Cyclones cut the deficit in half as Jack Downing caught a pass in the mid-slot from Geoff Irwin and slammed in his 17th goal of the season past Jason Missiaen (W, 22 saves, 14-14-0-3). Unfortunately, a comeback bid would not be in the cards for Cincinnati as Greenville's Andrew Himelson sent a point shot past Madore at 15:01 to regain the two-goal cushion for his team. Then, with 24 seconds to play, Josh Nicholls collected an empty net tally to seal a 4-1 Road Warriors win.
Cincinnati will head southeast to wrap up their weekend road trip as they visit the South Carolina Stingrays tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Fans can hear the action of the game beginning at 6:45pm on the Cyclones Radio Network and WATCH live at the Game Time Sports Bar & Grill in Cheviot.
