Eagles' Late Rally Results in Point vs. Steelheads, 4-3 OT
March 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
BOISE, Idaho. -The Colorado Eagles (39-21-1-3) scored two goals in the final 1:35 to pick up a point in the standings against the Idaho Steelheads (42-17-2-3), falling 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at CenturyLink Arena.
After a scoreless first period, lady luck was not with the Eagles. Just over a minute into the second period, the puck deflected off of a broken stick right onto Alex Belzile's tape, who sniped the Steelheads into the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Colorado would answer as forward Kyle Kraemer regained possession in the offensive zone, skated himself open, and rung the puck off the crossbar and into the net, evening the tally at 1-1. Idaho would strike next when forward Wade MacLeod buried his 32nd goal of the year past Eagles netminder Aaron Crandall, putting the Steelheads in the driver's seat, 2-1. 29 seconds later, Idaho forward Colton Beck capitalized on the momentum, gaining the 3-1 advantage.
The Cardiac Kids were at it again. On the power play with 1:35 remaining, Crandall headed for the bench in exchange for defenseman Vitalijs Pavlovs. Forward Brock Nixon fired home a slapshot from the point to pull the Eagles within one, setting the stage for another comeback. Pavlovs parked himself in front of the net with 39 seconds remaining, and shoved the puck home through Idaho netminder Chris Rawlings' five hole, tying the game at 3.
Just 35 seconds into the overtime, the Steelheads would end the Eagles' fun, as Beck came streaking across the slot, sniping Idaho into the victor's circle.
Colorado did pick up a point after the late, furious rally. With the Steelheads now seven points ahead of them in the Pacific Division, every point matters.
