Gelderman Named VP & General Manager of Business Operations
March 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that Joe Gelderman has been promoted to Vice President and General Manager of Business Operations. Gelderman will now oversee all of the organization's day to day business operations.
"As the fans and members of our organization know, personal and career development is something that we take a lot of pride in around here," said Gladiators President Steve Chapman. "Joe couldn't be a more perfect example of proof in that belief system. Joe started with us right out of college and has worked his way up the ladder gaining experience and our trust. He has been honest, loyal, creative and dependable. In my mind, there is no better person to take on the responsibility and opportunities that lie ahead. There are some very exciting developments in front of the Gladiators and Joe will do a great job leading our staff though them."
Most recently serving as Vice President of Business Operations, Gelderman, who has been with the team since January of 2003, has also held the positions of Account Executive, Director of Game Operations, Director of Operations, and Vice President of Sales within the organization.
Since Gelderman's promotion to Vice President of Sales in 2009, he has been in charge of hiring, training and guiding the growth of the Gladiator sales staff. The Gladiators have increased group sales revenue in each season with Joe at the helm. In addition, under his leadership, the front office set organizational records for group sales revenue in the 2013-2014 season and are on pace to eclipse that record in 2014-2015.
"I am extremely grateful to Toby Jeffreys, Steve Chapman and the entire ownership group for the opportunities and support that I have received and continue to receive from them" Gelderman said. "Steve and Toby have been great role models and have continued to set a phenomenal example of professionalism and excellence in all that they do," Gelderman continued. "Steve has prepared me for this opportunity and has put the entire Gladiator organization in a wonderful position to succeed going forward. I am looking forward to continuing to work with both of them and learn from them in our new roles. "
"Being with this organization for twelve seasons has taught me many things. One of the most important is that you need a great team around you in order to achieve the success that we expect. We have built an outstanding front office team that works hard and cares deeply about our fans, our sponsors, our support staff and each other. None of that is going to change. We will continue to be great stewards in the North Metro Atlanta community and we will continue to provide one of the best entertainment values around. We will also continue to strive to remain one of the premier franchises - not just in the ECHL - but in all of professional sports. "
Gelderman, 36, will officially assume the duties on April 1st. He and his wife, Carol Ann, reside in Flowery Branch.
The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league, and are affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth - where parking is always free.
