NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals are proud to announce that right wing Norm Milley has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hampton Roads community during the 2007-08 season.

As a big supporter of literacy, Milley engaged in multiple events to support and encourage literacy amongst children. He was the sole visitor to an urban public school that housed many under privileged students. By hosting an assembly for these students, he used his experiences as a hockey player to promote the importance of education and exemplify the traits associated with good citizenship. Milley also assisted in a local Barnes and Noble Literacy Day event in which he read to children from all backgrounds as well as donated books to R.E.A.C.H. (Reading Enriches All Children), a regional literacy organization.

Milley's efforts to support the community go beyond just literacy. The Norfolk Admirals hockey team along with the Susan G. Komen Foundation hosted a breast cancer awareness night entitled Pink-in-the-Rink. In addition to helping provide items to be auctioned off, Milley once again went above and beyond the call of duty. To show his support for breast cancer awareness he shaved his head for the special game.

On the ice, Milley's performance is certainly impressive; off the ice his performance is much the same. When dealing with fans either after the games or while signing autographs, his giving nature shines through. He is never too busy to stop and speak to fans or to answer their questions. He always stops for children or sick fans to do what he can to brighten their day and make their AHL experience all that it can be.

Norm Milley indubitably exemplifies all of the characteristics that the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year should exhibit. Whenever there is an opportunity to represent his team in any endeavor to better the community, he enthusiastically participates, doing what he can to help and improve the community around him.

In recognition of his efforts, Milley will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

Milley is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the AHL in the coming weeks.
