ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Tim Conboy has been named the team's winner of the 2007-08 American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions and community work in the Albany area.

Conboy has had an incredibly positive image in the Capital District during the 2007-08 hockey season, leading the way to assist in all types of River Rats fundraising and community programs. He was a tireless promoter for the River Rats community efforts, being heavily involved in the Reading with Rowdy program and the Bowl-a-thon for the Ronald McDonald House Love Builds program. He also provided Public Service Annoucements about good sportsmanship, attended countless school assemblies and classrooms to discuss education and responsibility and engaged in Team Building Projects for Youth with Equinox, Inc.

As Albany's recipient of the 2007-08 award, Conboy is also one of 29 finalists for the American Hockey League's 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award. From this list of 29 finalists, representatives from American Specialty and the AHL will choose the winner of the 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award. The AHL's annual Man of the Year award is named after the late Yanick Dupre, who died in 1997 at the age of 24, following a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre, an AHL All-Star in 1995, played four seasons with the Hershey Bears, registering 169 points in 207 AHL games. He also skated in 35 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Conboy, who is currently on NHL call up with the Carolina Hurricanes, will be presented with an etched crystal trophy; the award will be announced during one of Albany's final two regular season home games and received on his behalf by a member of the River Rats organization.

The River Rats continue their stretch of road games on Friday, March 28th as they roll west on I-90 to face their intrastate rival Syracuse Crunch at 7:30 pm at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Albany's next home game is on Wednesday, April 9th against the Norfolk Admirals; a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
